i saw a new one of those THINK! adds today, where they show some sort of crash or something in the hope to save a life on the road.
i saw it at the cinema but im guessing itll be on tv soon. its a motorbike riding around what looks like an estate, going too fast and over taking people. then it skips to someone in a car as the bike goes into them, finishing by showing the motorcyclist lying in the road. anyone else seen it? its quite good, but i wonder why they chose to aim it at such a small percentage of courses of accidents. surly they want to save as many lives as possible for the money they spend, so should aim for the biggest courses. i.e car driver fault, not motorcyclist. im not saying somebikers dont ride stupidly though, but money vs lives im sure it could be done better. i liked the old one about 'now u see him, now u dont', with the biker in the drivers mirror. drink driving ones also seem a great idea. |

i thought it was a pile of pants -
surely even the most stupid of people would have realised that going to fast is going to result in an accident ? i mean the advert shows the motorcyclist speeding - and the motorcyclist sufering at the end. so the advert is just saying - he speeds - he pays. most motorcyclists would have guessed this already - those who wont are probably too stupid to understand what the advert is telling them anyway. so from me - piece of s***t. the money would have been much better spent else where. it is a brilliant piece of film - but the outgoing message needs working on. also - i think it is putting a bad image to motorcyclists (as the majority dont ride like that) |

i do work for a couple of motorbike accident prevention organisations.
The current aim is for the reckless riders. the two they are aiming at this year is the sportsbike riders and scooter riders. I've not seen this ad yet though so cannot comment on it. They have to address the balance after the last ad "now you see him, now you don't" as that ad was aimed at car drivers. Now they're aiming directly at the bad riders. Unfortunately they are the majority of the ones that have the accidents. Here is a report from last year http://www.thebikereview.com/ssup/report.htm |

in the add the bike wasnt a sports bike or scooter, rather some half faired bike i didnt recognise.
i can see why they might want to balance the aim of the adds, but i still think poor riding is rarely a cause of accidents. it might contribute, but its cars that r the dangerous things. AND ANOTHER THING! it anoys me when people go on about bikes being dangerous! all my friends and family r always going 'but bikes r dangerous, i wouldnt get on one'. when did u last hear of a bike killing a car driver? or a padestrian? not nearly as often as u hear it the other way round. cars r dangerous. infact.... a 4x4 at 8:50am driven by a blonde mother is just about the most terrifying thing i see on a day to day basis. think i might have gone off on a tangent here. |

dont think he meant just them, rather it was their turn to have an add aimed at their riding.
that report is interesting, but not much of it that suprising. what i did think was interesting was that most people said oil/desiel/water on the roads were more worrying than junctions and roundabouts. even though the statistic for serious accidents say junctions and roundabouts r danger hotspots. although i imagine very few slips on oil r reported. i worry about dropping the bike and sratching it about as much as i do dieing. |

i remember laying in the field i had crashed into, grass about weist height. i couldnt see the bike, but as i laid there, winded, rolling around, collar bone broken, all i could think about was i didnt want to look at the bike.
