sorry messed the last one up

(Edit Admin2: Fixed the typo and also added another option that I felt was relevant as this is quite an interesting and important question)

When I get the end can on I'll phone to see if I'm still covered...
I read somewhere that if the end can produces less than 10% of bike's standard Bhp then it's ok...

Is this correct?

I tell 'em everything. I just can't fib.

Better reason's being also that I don't have anything 'ever-so-slightly-dodgy-officer' on either of my bikes (the Blade's colour not withstanding), and I'm not going to give any insurance company any more room for manouvering that I possibly can.

If they know about it, they can't complain afterwards. Well, OK, they can... but I'll wag my finger sternly at them and say I told 'em so!

In these days of 'I'll sue your pants off given half a chance' it's stupid to risk it.

Only told them about the can. Cosmetic modification shouldn't be a problem as most are only concerned about performance enhancemants.
My insurance have stipulated that if my non-legal can contributes to an accident then they won't pay out.

I think if the other driver sez that they ran into you because they had their fingers in their ears to stop them from bleeding.

Good point. On the face of it, it appears as though it would be impossible, but how about this scenario:

You're on your bike riding along, illegal can letting everyone know you're there. The sun is shing and you've a smile on your face. Now, you come up behind an old codger who's driving slowly, you move along side, change down a gear with a nice big loud blip and roar off. Nice.

Now, this old codger (who'd had his window open), on hearing your completly unexpected v-twin blip and roar has a heart attack (I'm serious, think about it). His car goes out of control and smashes into a lampost, badly damaging his car and the lampost.

His legal team looks at the police and loss adjuster's report and then makes a claim against you for causing the accident. Your insurance company claims the policy is null and void as you've breached their terms and conditions. Under government legislation however they're forced to cover the third party claims. But that's not the end of it, they now instigate proceedings against you for breach of contract and fraud, so that the final bill plus their legal costs arrive at your door. In order to settle you are now forced to sell your house etc.

Crazy idea? I think you'll find it's quite feasible. Likely to happen? Probably not, but are you prepared to rest your future on a probable?

So I have an illegal can? Yes. Did I phone my insurance company (Carole Nash - Royal Sun Alliance)? Yes, thankfully on my particular policy there isn't a problem providing it doesn't add to the bike's overall power.

So the moral of the story is simply think things through from beginning to end and weigh up the risk factors - if they're acceptable fine, if not...

Ah, but by the time the police/insurance company have contacted you to let you know what their intentions are, you've re-fitted your original can and they can't prove that you had an illegal can on at the time of the alleged incident............perhaps
