Just a quick question really. I went to order some preload caps from my Suzuki dealer ppl. I have a 2001 SV650 and on the 2002 model they put preload caps on so was going to order this.
But the guy refused to order them unless i gave him the VIN number so he can confirm they fit. I was led to believe the forks on the 2001 and 2002 were identical apart from the preload caps. Is this right or are their differences? |

they fit, I put 02 preload caps on my 99,
the only other diff in the fork might be the # of pinchbolts on the axle... my 99 fork had 2, I just put on a set from an 01 that only had 1 pinchbolt, not that it makes any difference |

you've fallen foul of the "mandatory VIN" philosophy now prevalent in the motor industry.
![]() I wanted to get some wiper blade rubbers for my car a couple of weeks ago, had to give them the VIN before they'd order them! ![]() They probably won't supply you with the bits, because they don't want the liability. Go somewhere else if you get hassle. Yes they'll fit, but you also need to sort out the spacer tube length. I can't recall the details, but it's here somewhere if you search, or someone will come up with the info. |

Part numbers for the Adjusters and washers are:
adjuster = 51351-10D80 washer = 51192-06C00 (you will need two of each) Measure the length of the pre-load caps and remove that measurement for the spacer tubes. |

The adjusters are exactly that. Adjustable pre-load caps. Where as your current set up is a fixed pre-load. Pre-load being determined by the length of the spacer tube. So measure the distance from end of adjuster to top of thread (Adjuster wound back), deduct the same dimension taken from the fixed cap and that should give you the amount to cut off the spacer to give the same preload as a fixed setup. This gives you maximum scope for adding pre-load greater than your stock set-up. If stock was too hard (Doubt it) take the initial dimension with the adjuster in mid position, and cut a little more off the spacer tube. I hope you intend to fit adjustable pre-load as part a complete fork upgrade and will fit with decent springs (Ohlins etc) and new oil. Mr Fud fitted my adjusters/springs etc. It ain't rocket science and after he explained how and why of sag setup I am comfortable that my post above should meet BASAT requirements.

You won't need the spacer, just cut the existing one. |
