Road legal... Can't see any particular reason why not. A good idea? I'd doubt it

IIRC they didn't used to be, I think it was perceived they they would split easier and become a fire risk in an accident.

My 1970s Rickman has a steel tank with a fifreglass dummy cover.I believe they did this as fibreglass tanks were illegal then.Don't know if that has changed sinse.

Don't know about bikes, but I think they are OK for cars,Lotus used them on some of their older cars!
![]() Most modern cars use plastics as they crumple better in accidents, lighter in weight etc. The ones on bikes are made from same plastic, think it's ABS. Fibre-glass CAN be pourous IF poorly manufactured and tends to crack in impacts! Burns well too! ![]() ![]() |

They used to be illegal in the UK, but not other parts of the world - I don't know if that's changed.

Do you mean actual fibreglass or composite as in non-metalic Most new sports bikes have non-metalic tanks and it is common on several makes after about 2000 in there other models also Lighter and don't rust but no good for a magnetic tank bag

Fibre glass tanks have to be internally lined with a membrane (well that used to be the case for racing).
Cheers Mark.
