Brakes

hi dunno if anyone in the know be able to help but ive got this problem with my front break which seem to be stuck at the moment any how i was practising some stoppies and i manage to free them up so i though sweet how ever when i tried another stoppie it managed to lock the front wheel in

does any one sort of understand whats going on with my front break i dont know how they managed to get into this situation where they keep sticking in the on position i woke up one day and just noticed a lot of resistance in my riding

any help would obviously be aprichiated

They are probs dirty, take them off and the pads out and clean them up with brake cleaner. check the pistons for any damage and mabye a bleed. it all really depends on how much meat you got on the discs and pads. A good clean should clear most things up if not mabye pads need a change.

well you know what that means dont ya i been working to hard and its suttle message saying i should take break more lol erm yeah something like tht

thats really interesting i never thought dirt could really **** your brakes up lke that it was so embarassing today as i was doing burn outs becuase my front break was jammed up bad

thanks for the advise only thing is now i gotta figure out how to take the breaks apart

Have a good look at the pistons when you take the calipers off - if you see what looks like paper then the seals have gone (£20 a set).


Weekly dribble some water through the brakes, monthly spray over with brake cleaner - should stop a recurrance

If all you're interested in is stoppies and wheelies, and all you worry about is the reasons why you can't do one or the other, maybe you should reconsider why you ride in the first place.

Blimey, someone that can spell worse than me

The sv calipers have a bad tendancy for corrosion if not looked after properly. The front pisonts can sieze and damage the seals. So as advised pop the calipers off, get a can of brake cleaner and a toothbrush, remove the pads...if the pins are not siezed in, and thats another story, and give the pisons a real good scribbing with the brush a cleaner. Then VERY gently squeeze the brake lever(once) and watch the pistons. If one moves and the other doesnt, then hold the one thats moving and again gently squeeze the lever. This will hopefully move the stuck pison. Again, clean with the brush and cleaner, then push the pistons back into the cliper, re-fit/replace pads, remount claiper and pump the lever a few times until you get some feel back in the lever.

However, brakes are seriosu things. If you dont feel compitent with a spanner, then id advise getting help form someone that does, or take it to a garage.
