Default pod filters

Has anyone installed pod filters on the SV ? If so what brand and part number and how did they work ?

Default Generally a bad idea

Pod filters can improve total air flow, which means they can potentially free up a couple of ponies at high RPM. However, doing so usually means a deterioration in performance at low- and mid-range RPMS because you lose the benefits of the tuned induction (stock air box and filters).

Also, they are quite noisy. Intake honk on the SV has been described as loud as a loud exhaust pipe. The difference is that you're sitting on top of the filters where loud pipes inflict most of their noise on those behind the bike.

Consider carefully.

Which model of SV is it? Can make a difference. Andy's right that it can cost midrange, but the SV doesn't seem to be too susceptible to that. Throttle response may be hit though, and environmental problems- poor wet weather starting, strange throttle effects when windy- have been reported. But they're supposedly a sod to jet for, the standard air jet needs drilled out on carbed models. Injected ones would definately need a remap, I reckon.

With the carbed bike, if you get the big K&Ns- the 4" round drum ones fit with tank spacers- then the word is it's basically the same as running unfiltered. Put in terms of main jets, a bike with a full system and standard filter or SV K&N calls for in the region of 140-150DJs. Mine, with its full system and BMC Race RS filter is running 180s. Zoran and Factory Pro found deboxing calls for 210 Mikunis, which is larger still than a 210 DJ. Do it without rejetting and you really will knacker your engine.

Renegade make an airkit for the injected modelthat removes the airbox. I'm assuming the pipercross filters used are pretty restrictive though, as it's designed to work without remapping. Sound brilliant, though.

Remember when you quote jet sizes you have to also say if its DJ or Mikuni as they are very diffrent.

True, yep, missed that, but if it does not then it could be either.
