Default Newbie up north needs advice!

Hi Guys n Gals,

Ive just picked up my first sv650s sport! What a great bike, sk6 on an 07 plate !!! Bandit 6 before that! I love it its awesome!

Anyway, I have been looking for a bolt on can for my new baby as I dont want to cut the OE exhaust or fit it with a strap. I have seen some for earlier sv's but not for the sk6. Can anyone point me in the right direction for one of these????

Also Im after a service manual. Haynes dont produce one and tell me that they wont unless enough people tell them that they want one.

Final point, Ive been told that the Sv's are quite heavy oil users, is this right??

Cheers

Frazer

Have a read of the exhaust section

http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=137

I think if you dont want cut your exhaust you'll be looking at fitting a full system rather than a slip on can. But these still use a strap to hang the can so it wont help you there.

I dont believe its possibly to get a bolt on can for the 650.

TBH just cut the exhaust, its not hard as long as you take your time over it, it'll work out fine. If your that worried, have a look on ebay as often you can find standard exhaust systems that have been cut already and then you dont have to worry about cutting yours.

They can be, but all engine's use a little oil, as long as you check the levels regularly it wont be a problem. My K1 SVS has done 36K and it doesnt use oil, but my other halfs K5 SVS does burn a little but its not something we've ever concerned ourselves with.

TBH as long as you look after it and dont do huge amounts of wheelies, then you wont have any problems with the SV motor IMHO.

Can't help with the Haynes manual, however I think if you look on the main site, in the FAQ section or possibly the goodies section, you can download the service manuals in PDF form, failing that have a look on ebay as frequently they are on their on CD-Rom

Welcome to the site

There's Haynes manuals available for SV650s up to 2005 (K5). Not sure how much will have changed between your newer bike and 2005 model though

The o6 model is fuel injected, dont know bout the 05. if it is then that will have to do I think.

I have seen on ebay from kwfm bolt on cans that look really good without the strap but the need to be modified for the 06, might have to have a play.

Is it possible to weld a bracket onto the can? or is the metal to thin?

Cant wait to get it run in only got 201 miles on the clock, dying to open her up!!!

The only difference between the 05 and 06 models was the colours the bikes were painted.

Welcome to the madhouse!

Anything K3 or later is fuel injected (pointy) before that were carbs (curvy).

As for oil usage, my K6 hasn't used a drop in the last 15,500 ish miles. Keep on top of the servicing & you should be fine.
