Don't like loud
I've never been a fan of loud bikes. They attract the wrong sort of attention (law enforcement officers) and they make you unpopular with the neighbors. In the US they are beginning to get more strict about noise ordinances, which is OK with me, but has many bikers howling. I heard it put well the other day: You have no more right to run loud pipes than I do to set off firecrackers in front of your house.

I kind of agree... Well, within reason. I like a slightly fruity pipe, but I reckon the Scorpions and ARTs are just offensively loud. It's your choice, obviously, but at the end of the day if we annoy enough people the rules will get tighter and be enforced more strongly.

have to disagree about being too loud a v-twin is probably the best noise from any engine,so in my opinion the louder the better,

I had a modified stumpy can that was very very loud. I got evils from my neighbours everytime I started it up.
I've now got a Zorstec a bolt in baffle and BS stamp Below 4000 rpm it's nice and quiet. Above that it starts to let people know where you are. |

Not only does a loud can make my willy hard, but I actually think loud cans have safety benefits.
As for neighbours, unless you are a tool/thoughtless and sit with the bike running for 10 mins revving it up before you ride off, or you give it a fistful and ride off at full chat, I can’t see that starting it up and pulling stright away and gently - with the gentle burble at low revs - is more offensive than say a diesel van. It’s all about having a little thought/respect. |
