Google has a handy calculator.

1 842 knots = 2 119.73574 mph

600 knots = 690.467669 mph

EDIT: Beaten to it

I reckon that if you ever want proof of why Suzuki are better than Honda, you just need to look up "Hayabusa"- "A Japanese bird of prey that eats blackbirds"

Still, I hear the speedo in an SR71 overreads by about 10%, so when they think they're doing 2119 mph, they're probably only really doing about 2050

Its actually (turdus) turdus merula.

As with most animal classifications the genus is repeated as the first part of the species name.

The genus turdus is actually robins (blackbirds and thrushes are the same family) and covers about 50 different species of birds.

damn that's my new years resolution not to be a pedantic git broken

And the Blackbird started off life as a fighter design, and was to carry missiles internaly.. then experiments were carried out for it to carry a reconesance drone on its back.. but after a slight accident at seperation, where the drone crashed back into the Blackbird at high speed... it got turned intoa Recon aircraft itself... and thus the Russians built the Mig-25 to attempt to counter what was going to be the Blackbird fighter... and then the USA built the F-15 to counter that... and the Russians were mid-developing the SU-27... which has been countered by the F-22.. Russias stopped playing ball now...

I thought the Mig 25 was developed to counter the XB70 Valkyrie which never came to fruition.

Damn I'm at it again, sorry.

Bit of both really... as the Blackbird and Valkyrie were both going to be Mach 3 + capable.... quite a nasty combo to deal with... but LOTS of trouble with getting things to work on the Blackbird as a fighter ended up having it changed to a Recon aircraft instead...

Ive read that snippet before on another web site... got quite a few chuckles there as well...

the SR-71...yeah. Love to do that.

No MiG-25 was never gonna get close to a Habu...Not at Mach3 and 90,000ft.

The Foxbat was a failure as it never met its design brief....good looker though.

I was lucky enough to spend over a year working at RAF Mildenhall when the SR-71s were there. Nearly as impressive as the Vulcan.
