Think yourself lucky, I walked to uni every day, in the snow. Well, OK, not every day in the snow, but sometimes. Then again, I lived 20 minutes from uni

Fact is, sometimes a bike's just not the most sensible bit of transport, and running 2 vehicles is tricky for people on a wage never mind students. I'd never have been able to afford a bike when I was at uni... So, yeah, it might just be that you have to do it, which is a damn shame but you can always get another one. Next year if your tent leaks you can sleep in the car

Have you looked at the cost of a taxi for the anticapted number of days that are totally out for taking the bike against the increased insurance costs? With all this global warming the winters are getting milder and milder just now?

The problem is I'm not enjoying the bike, last year it was awesome with the good weather meaning I had lots of great days out on the bike. This year I've been mainly using it only because I have no other option and would prefer to be in a warm dry box.

There has been very few days I have been able to use the bike and enjoy it (heading down to the AR, + one day in January! and a day in april). infact most days have been the opposite, I don't like riding in the cold or wet so thats Scotland summed up really.

Taxis are no good for me, as I live just out of edinburgh, standard fare to the centre is £21, or to uni is £16 so thats £42 or £32 a time, it would very quickly mount up. I'd be getting tp or tpft with the car, simply because I cant afford anything right now. so it looks like an increase of between £50 and £500 depending on the car

That exact feeling came over me when I turned 30! Bought my first car and just thought I was just getting old, but now I'm 40 I've gone back the other way and commute religiously whatever the weather.

Bring it on Mother Nature!*

Got to agree with Blue Flame though, the winters really are getting milder, but if you're not enjoying it then that's all she wrote.

At the end of the day IMO having a bike is a luxury not an essential, for me if I was forced to choose between one or other then the bike would go. I'm lucky that I can afford both and if money became tight I would do everything I could to keep both including cheaper car and cheaper bike, only insure and tax bike in summer months.

You need to get yourself to more rideouts wet or dry and if the dates on here dont suit then post up dates that do suit and I'm sure you will get some response. At this moment we seem to be only getting one rideout per month I'm sure we can do better than that

I agree, post up a date , a route and lets go. For all the "regular posters" there will be the same number again guests/"voyeurs" who will turn up.
and
I feel responsible when folk like MossyPerk Jim and Stuarty post up for runs and get little response. Mid weekers are great times to have a run oot, let alone weekends.

Sorry , well off topic............... OYB, you got to do what FEELS right, if thats flogging your bike of the moment, then so be it. What you HAVE got is a FULL BIKE LICENSE for the rest of your days, so job done. I have a mate that wanted to join the party but got so disallusioned(?) that after spending 3.5K+ sold all his bike and gear within a year, massive loss, without getting that FULL BIKE on his license. Say 10yrs down the line and he is back to square 1.

As I said ,you got the rest of your days to get what ever you fancy, job done!

(Please don't read anything into the Italics, thats a 1st fer me)

Absolut is the daddy,hic

I have a cunning plan. Decide to sell it, then the day before you let it go we'll arrange a big rideout to see it off. In the midst of said rideout, you will inevitably crash it, therefore rendering it unsellable- decision made!

Its wierd that you say that, since thats exactly what I did with my MZ, eventually accepted a really crap offer after trying to sell it for months, (was winter, and a MZ) crashed it the day after before handing it over... oops!!!
