i agree that he did not come in as most of us do, and as to spam i'm no expert on such things so would take things on face value as long as no harm appears to be done, still, life goes on.

the discussions we all have follow a trend though generally

post
objections/support to post
discussion of objections and support
new inofrmation informs new judgement or we agree to disagree

But people often (guilty myself) see the objections to their post as conflict, when its not, its just a different view that challenges yours.

the problem comes when people believe opinion constitutes fact,

We could be more constructive than 'hitler preach' - the most hilarious mental image of hitler in gospel robes singing 'we all pray to jesus' repeatidly (yes I know this stereotype is verging on insulting)

So to sum up, there IS VALUE in heated debate!

Good point Ralph, being ex-police he could have taken that as being called a facist.

Hey, I'm not sure it really matters that much, but just an observation.

In his "intro" post in Idle Banter he got a long list of welcomes and encouraging comments, how useful it would be to have his experience/expertise on here etc. Great. Welcome.

Then after the OP in this thread he gets one negative (OK, highly negative ) comment and the teddy goes out of the pram. I do think that when a member with 4 posts and a few days on site (whoever they might be in another life, Pope included) gets such a comment back, it is worth them looking at the joining date/number of posts of the responder (in this case a few years and a few thousand posts) to get some sort of idea as to where it's coming from. You have to earn respect, you don't just assume it.

In all my years (a lot) I've come across all sorts of folk, and some of them just can't take any sort of criticism, maybe TC is like this? Maybe it's a long time since he did any "inter-personal relationship" training (if the Police do that at all) and has forgotten how to turn these sort of conflicts around into meaningful discussion (if the Pol......). Sorry, maybe that's getting too personal, I don't know the guy, maybe he just had a bad day, maybe not.

Next topic please!

Well said embee.

If everybody decided that they were going to leave after someone disagrees with them or hurt their feelings, the forum would be empty.

TC is well known in the online biking community. He says he had been invited to join, maybe the people who invited him could have warned him about the timing. And maybe the people who invited him could have informed the moderator of this thread so it wouldn't have got out of hand. A lot of people have not been made to feel welcome when they joined (posts in the survey threads earlier on in the year where everyone had their say), you have just added one, not just anyone, no one who knows his stuff and a lot of other .Orgers would probably have liked him to stay and could have benefitted from his words of wisdom. But no a few had to spoil it. It is a privilege to have someone like TC posting on (y)our forum, but does the .Org recognise it? No.

but...

how does one persons opinion supersede anothers on an open forum?

in all fairness the OP did say "you may be interested in" ... if not move on. no need to comment or get nasty about it.. we all been there, read something of no interest and moved on - why attack the OP?
I for one found it interesting to read. same as the "smoking kills" on ciggie packs.. speed kills... heed the advice or dont...

i for one have been "attacked" by "more senior" posters on this site for having an opinion about something but just becos they have a post count of 6million to my "paltry" 20 dont mean they more right or more entitled to their opinion.

Guys, this was unfortunate. SK has apologised profusely.

It was a shame things got a bit out of hand and a shame that TC has felt the need to remove himself from the Org but I think we should stop slating the guys for something they have apologised for.

I also think that the rest of us Organs, who were full aware of the loss of Hovis, need to remember that people are still grieving and this is what resulted in such strong words to the OP.

If the OP couldn't accept the apologies, and use his nogging when he was told about the loss of one of the biggest personalities in the forum, thenI don't see it as much of a loss either.

This is a lively forum with lively "debates" frequently taking place and if he couldn't handle one member challenging him then I would ate to see him in on of the debates!!

If TC wishes to man up and come back, he will be welcomed. If not, then in the words of someone else earlier today......MEH!
