I've never riveted a chain link but need to fit new C&S to Speedy's bike. Local place was not too helpful about just doing the rivet link and need at least a week's notice.
Does anyone know a place local(-ish) to me that will rivet a chain? Is there anyone who knows how to rivet chains (and has the tool) that is willing to give me a hand and a lesson? Failing the above, does anyone know anyone in Crosby area? EDIT: Oh yeah on a mission to get the bike ready for NWR6 on 23rd! |

I could get it done v. cheap or for nowt at my local place in Ormskirk (not far from Speedy's).
Edit: Mike - when you say the local place, is that the place local to you or Claire's? There's a place in Orrell Park she uses, is that the place you're talking about? |

i just use a lump hammer on the back as a shock stop. copper grease and a hammer to roun dof the rivet. Or a centor punch in the center of teh rivet then finish off the hammer.. 5 min job.

![]() Hopefully all is sorted now as Mark is lending me a riveter and I`ll take that over to Mikes with the bike either this weekend or next Friday prior to rideout. PS: Hope all of the above makes sense lol ![]() PPS: Maybe I really need to consider doing a bike maintenance course at my local college so that i`m not so useless when it comes to things like this! |

Failing that, we have been offered the loan of a riveter. I'd rather not try the ball pein and mallet method for my first go at this, especially as we are on a deadline and it's not my bike. |

Thanks all, but I have now ordered a chain riveting tool on recommendation from another ORGan, plus I have several folks willing to lend a hand should it be needed. I'm gonna drive over to Speedy's with all the bits and tools required and get it sorted there. A number of the good ORGers of L'pool have offered help if I get stuck. TBH now I know I'll have the correct tool, I'm more comfortable about doing it.
