I don't know, I think they must have fiddled the mileage, and/or it was stood outside for a long time.

Each to their own I suppose, some people have all the fun they want on 30 year old 125s.

The SV will be cheaper to run, not just on fuel but on parts etc.

I would look carefully at the bike, and think does it look like it's only done 1300 miles? A lot of these will have mint bodywork and low miles because they have been raced. Don't take it for granted that it has not been raced.

Think i caused some confusion regarding mileage, the R1 has done just over 19000.

That R1 was a perfect shape. It'll never age
Was hoping for the same thing.
I agree. Think it still looks awesome.

I like the 1st generation R1s, they are supposed to be bonkers! Just as a guide, I've got a year 2000 model and paid £3250 for it a year ago with 7000 miles on the clock and it was in very good condition.
All i have got are pics from the dealer website, nothing up very close. Going back for a test ride on Sunday will sure to be ask all about service history etc. Sounds like you got a really good deal Davies, the R1 is up for £2999

19000 miles,

Im not sure about the change hollay, it does sound a little like they are stealing from you (in a sense). You unhappy with your bike at all?
Not unhappy with the SV, just always been a sports bike lover, came back to bikes after 5 years off and thought i should get something sensible and unfaired. Turns out i'm missing the fairing lol. Plus as my name suggests i love R1's.

Me too I was 18 when the R1 was launched and instantly fell in love, haha

I was thinking that, especially the red/white one, lots of blue ones kicking about.

Still undecided, but all going well on the test ride i might end up converting to Yamaha, sorry . Just wish i could afford both.

Thanks again for all your replies, some good things to think about. I'll post the actual pics of the bike next.

Will

The bike only has 3 mods. A Scottoiler, tinted screen and IXIL exhaust.

I got rid of my SV curvey for a zx636 although it was 4 yrs younger, I would never get another SV after the Ninja purely because compared to the supersports they are too sow and clunky, the SV is a great commuter/starter bike but I think providing the R1 is mechanicly sound you will fall in love with it and be tempted to swap but I think you need to listen to the orgers, assuming it's 1998 and an S reg parkers say -

Yamaha YZF R1

1998/S

Original Price £9,199 Independent Dealer £1,870 Private Good £1,580 Private Poor £1,140 Part Exchange £1,290
So shop around.
