Default Elliot Tacho issues

Hi.

Rebuilt my Minitwin and refitted my Elliot Tacho and TIM water temperature gauge with a new wiring loom.

When I ran it at the weekend the rev counter read double and during the day led to a misfire on the bike. The tacho and the water temperature gauge would fluctuate with the revs.

Pull the live off both and the misfire goes.

It was wet (and snowy) so that could have had something to do with it but the tacho was running double revs at tickover so it can't have been the whole problem.

The tacho runs a Red, Black and a Green wire. I've got red to live, black to earth and the Green is the signal wire. Out of interest where should the green connect to? I need to follow the loom back.

The water temp gauge also runs a Red, Black and a Green wire. Again, red to live, black to earth and green to the sender.

Any ideas what have I done wrong or what should I check?

Cheers.

Jody.

Green should connect to front coil wire which is black/yellow on stock loom.
If it is reading double it may be set for 1 spark per 2 rotations where SV runs wasted spark.

Does this tacho have rev limiter function? It should not have, I think your misfire comes from some other problem.

Temp changing with revs could be some fault. You have a charging system?

Cheers for the reply Chris.

I haven't changed any settings on the tacho that I know about and I used it last year without problem.

I'll check where the wire runs to and see if there are any issues there.

There is a charging system on the bike.

It might have just been the awful weather getting the water temp sensor going, maybe shorting somewhere.

Cheers.

Jody.
