You pay import duty then vat on the lot.
My mate got stung £15 last week for something around £20 from the states, I personally dont think this is right but he paid it anyway. It's the first time he's had stuff flagged, he orders a lot of stuff. |

In the passage above this is the possible import tax/charges to which I refer. On batteries the tax is 2.7% ontop of VAT so thats 22.7% total plus the asswhole-tax they charge for delivering you this fine piece of news a flat fee of £12. Dont forget shipping is listed as being free so we'd get no shipping charges so you save some pennies there too. And of course thats all dependent on what the value of the item been shipped is; if for instance someone happened to label the products as promotional with nothing more than a $15 market value they'd come in under the tax and duty radar and be tax exempt. No fraud involved, this is after all a promotional offer. The obvious fact remains that if you're thinking of getting one these batteries which I know a few of you are, then this will be far and away the cheapest oportunity to get one. If it does get stung by the tax man then we effectivly loose the discount but still only end up paying the equivilent RRP for the item but save shipping costs. The obvious bonus would be if it didnt get stung by tax we've all made a massive saving by buying bulk. However take the gamble on your own and after paying the full RRP, you'll also still have the risk of tax which makes it even more expensive. There's 2 options really if you wanted one of these units, 1: Pay £80 with a risk of a further £21 and buy now or 2: Pay £125 with a risk of a further £34 and buy whenever Last edited by Owenski; 20-03-12 at 03:18 PM. |

Not if the price paid does not match the price listed. Its easy to see that this would be a 90% discount - which is enough for investigations to take place. And if the REAL invoice happens to be in there? Quote:
I DID consider this but the fact that the battery may crank harder and be lighter, is offset by the fact that it is only 50% capacity, so may be an issue where an alarm is fitted, or if you want to recharge stuff under the seat at night while camping.

Ive been in regular contact with the guy who's business this is, if you go through the website you'll be charged $40 to ship to the UK. On this order he is doing it for free, you wont get that if you go to him alone you'll have to pay the £26.
Quote:
Exactly, its an inescapable fact and those figures dont lie. Even if I distribute them as special delivery with insurance marked up to £200 the maximum you'll pay on this order is still lower than the minimum you'll pay if you order individually. Quote:
Personally I'd never leave anything on charge unless it was during riding but each to thier own I supose with that. |

I dunno the spec of the one you're saying but if it helps the 8 cell is more than enough for the Drz. some of the american lads have fitted the 4 cell but i dare say most of those wil have the safety back up of a kick start. I'm getting an 8 and a 4 cell, hoping to use the 4 now but the 8 for any future bigger bikes.

I'm no hexpert hence the hesitancy after a bit of internet research I settled on the yuasa ytz12s being the best for the sv, based on amps and 'cca' (? cold crank amperage or something) will see if I can compare them to check whether appropriate for the sv, if so I bet it'll help loads of people out.

Been in contact with the manufacturer again and he has confirmed that hte 8 cell is suitable for the SV.
Its got 240CCA which is BETTER than the YTZ12 at 210CCA and wipes the floor with stock. It does however have only half the Ah (an unavoidable aspect of all li-ion batteries) That the YTZ12 has but this like Soulkiss said is only really of concern if you camp and charge things over night from the bike, or if you have an alarm and store the bike for long periods of time without using a trickle charger. |

No offence Matt, seems a lot of investment for something you probably won't feel the benefit from, drz maybe due to extra weight saving but if the stock battery works fine, then a lighter one works fine, you wont see a noticeable improvement surely?
