I have to say I thought you ment lipos just seen it was li-ion that's why they're more expensive. Slightly more stable but not by much. If you use LiFi cells you can make up a 9amp 4 cell. LiFi's are relatively stable
http://www.electricwingman.com/power...NR26650M1.aspx I'm fairly sure my friend has the same in his Daytona so I'll have to ask him |

Im just bumping this again before I head off on holiday, I'll try do it some more while Im away but the order from here is booming at ... just me so far we've got 4 from the DRZ forum though so shipping is at least now free. Lets get another 5 and then we're getting the 20% discount too.
Any other takers? Last edited by Owenski; 29-03-12 at 08:09 AM. |

Are they li-ion or LiFePo?**
Zoran is selling shorai batteries, they are about USD100 plus shipping for smallest one. ** Found answer myself, yes they are LiFePo (Lithium Ferrous Phosphate)... You DO NOT want to put Li-Ion in bike from what I read due to nasty bollox on fire type incidents occurring.

Clearly I know exactly what the relevance of all that information is* but lets purely for the benifit of those reading this please explain what all this li-ion, lifipo etc stuff means to these units...
In one sentance, are they worth the punt or are they minature bombs just waiting to make astronaughts out of motorcyclists? *by clearly I do I very much mean that I dont. |

Different battery technology.
Lead acid... obviously the one we know and love. Has lead and acid in it. Ye Olde NiCd rechargeable... Nickel-Cadmium stuff in there. Lithium Ion batteries are good but if you overcharge them or overheat due to amp draw you can cook them. They break down inside then and catch fire. LiFePo... Lithium Iron Phosphate are chemically different in that they use a much 'arder material inside (the ironed phosphate bit) which goes "come on ye b*stard is that all ye'v got!?" when some nugget connects his reg-rec backwards or supplies the battery with 100 Volts AC when they wire the stator up wrong... or when it ends up cookin' 'ot from extended cranking or something. Basically LiFePo are alright... LiI aren't.
