Default Wanted - google nexus

Right guys after a tablet, and these seem quite good, so after one or an iPad.
So who's selling?

I think Currys or Comet are doing a price match at the moment, together with a £20 off voucher or summat. Carphonewarehouse are doing the 32gb nexus7 for £179. If you use Flubit.com you might get it cheaper, although I think they only do deals on home delivery (and Carphonewarehouse are out of stock online).

EDIT: I'm getting one for my youngest lad, now I've convinced him that Apple stuff is overpriced.

One thing to note is that it is running Jelly bean 4.1 out of the box, and it doesn't like connecting to wifi, you have to manually connect it by entering the name of your wifi (even though it shows in the list) and then the password but as soon as you connect it will let you know that the update to 4.2 is available (this solves this bug) a bit of a non issue but it would have saved me 10 minutes if i would have known

Have you tried installing flash player off the Play Store? Works on the Samsung devices.

Morning

What devices are you thinking of, there are a few Nexus devices now. Tablet wise you've got the Nexus 7 (7" screen) or the Nexus 10 (10" screen)

I have an iPad 2 (from work) and the Nexus 7 and I MUCH prefer the Nexus 7, having said that I am aware that this may be because I have been an Android user since it came out a few years now so it may just be because that is what I am used to, but there is no way I would spend £300+ on an iPad of any description. That's alot of money

I got my my Nexus 7 when they first came out for £200 for 16GB although now you can get 32GB for about £170 if you shop around and they do now also have a 3G version if you need it.

I just think that, as a user of both, for what I want the 7" format is alot nicer to hold and to use in general, the lack of a camera on the back means nothing to me as the camera's on the back of the iPad and other Android tablets are crap and I'd never use it, 3G doesn't matter to me as it would never get used, if it came to it I would tether it to my phone, but if I was out and about I'd be using my phone and not my tablet.

The ONLY let down for me about my Nexus 7 is that is does not have the MHL (??) to HDMI connection so you can't connect it to your TV, but I've never done that before anyway so I'mnot actually missing anything, but it would have been nice as many other new devices have this.

The new Jelly Bean software does support WiFi Direct however, so in theory if you got a MiraCast dongle for your HDMI TV you could mirror your devices screen exactly onto your TV but this is all new and I have no way to test it and there are rumours that it will not work on the Nexus 7 for some reason but I am still hopefull. It means I could for example play games on my phone but through the TV screen, or it would allow users to use the BBC iPlayer or Netflix or other on demand apps and project them through your TV, which would be good. However, as I said, I've never had it so I won't miss it if it turns out you can't.

My Nexus 7 didn't have any problems and was completley fine on 4.1, 4.2 and 4.2.1 on the standard and custom ROM's

When jelly Bean first came out Flash said there would be no support for Jelly Bean and above but you could still load it on your device by downloading the .apk file, putting it on your device and installing it using a file manager on the device, then installing a compatible player like Dolphin (again, version dependant on flash support).

I believe that Flash have giving in and do now support the recent Jelly Bean versions, but I could be wrong, BBC iPlayer also works on it too although you need to download the iPlayer app and then you will be prompted to download another BBC app to make it work. I did install it but I don't use it so cannot comment on what it looks like or how it works, you can also put ITV Player on it too and Netflix works fine on it.
