Default Bandit runs poorly.

Still having problems with the bandit.

We have replaced all plugs and overhauled the carbs. Brand new genuine air cleaner installed.

The bike starts and idles ok but when i try to pull away in 1st gear the bike just dies.

Any ideas folks

Cheers

Default Bike dies when under load

Sidestand up?

Is it cutting out when you go into gear or when you're letting out the clutch?

No sidestand is up

1st gear and pull away, i get to about 3 or 4k and the bike dies

Am starting to think this could be an electrical issue. Trouble is am not sure if its the signal generator, the CDI box, or HT coils. Doing ma head in lol

It's a bandit so hopefully has a centre stand. What Tam is alluding to is that there are cut outs that kill the motor if the bike is pulling away with the stand down. Put the bike on the centre stand, start it, put the side stand up, 1st gear and let the clutch out. If the bike dies then check the side stand switch.

If the bike runs fine then it is not a saftey cut out and is to do work the load the engine is under.

Wouldn't the side stand cause it to cut out as soon as the gear is selected?

Yep, it would - edit: second thoughts, not strictly the case....thinking back to issues with my KTM, see below

Either electrical through vibration or fuel...checked your fuel filter recently? 3-4K rpm id low end on that thing right?

Yeah it's defo not the side stand cut off switch. This works fine because if you stick it in gear with the stand down the bike just cuts off immediately. The air filter is new. The petcock has been cleaned. No blockages in any vent hoses or fuel hoses. Fuel floats set at 17mm and their is fuel getting into the float bows. The bike starts and idles fine but sounds as if it's missing especially when revved. I am pretty sure it's the coils. Gonna buy a multi meter and see what resistance there is.

I take back what I said above, it could still be the side stand, depends on the type.....

I had a side stand issue with my KTM that wasn't the first thing I tried a remedy for, the bike was fine to startup and ride most of the time, but over time it would skip a beat momentarily more and more, first I thought it was a fuelling issue as the problem occurred around the same rev range but as time went on it got worse.....

The side stand on the KTM is a magnetic halo thingy which is not just a straight forward on/off switch, it's based on resistance due to magnetic field and as it turned out was very irratic. I created an eliminator plug for it and removed the side stand switch from the loom replacing it with this and the problem went away immediately never to return.

Not sure what type of sensor your bike has but it's not worth dismissing the side stand sensor until you're absolutely certain otherwise you might well waste money on unnecessary fixes

Just my 2 pence...

Last time I had a similar problem it was a restricted fuel feed. Carb float chambers filled up slowly, so bike kept stopping as they emptied.

When it is in neutral can you hold a constant rpm at about 8,000?
