I'd go merc on this particular occasion, but that's not really because I know a great deal about either car it's more because I prefer the quality feeling of mercs that I have been in recent years that are of that size.

wouldn't bother with the 1.8, you'll be disappointed.

In anything bigger than the 1 series the 1.8 is underpowered.

I was looking at 330d's and C250s when I was looking for my new car. Bought a Jaguar XF in the end with a 3ltr V6, glad I did now.

What do you need it for is a big part. If you need to get four adults in it a lot get the 5 door, if not, the 2 door etc

I had a 118 M Sport (143 bee aitch peas) for 3 years as a company car. It wasn't blisteringly fast, but it was good fun and nice to drive. Could get the tail out if you are that way inclined. I would have another in a heartbeat. "Interesting" in anything more than 1mm on snow!
