Alex mate, I am so glad you came away from that OK. They say a picture paints a thousand words but that clip writes a whole chapter! Thanks for posting it up on here, I don't think anybody who has watched that will ever ride into a low sun again without remembering it........

![]() As a biker, I know that we all love the sun; but I hope everybody that views this realizes how dangerous it can be under certain circumstances. I think it would be highly unlikely anybody could repeat this accident without a serious injury. I'm just glad I've been given another chance to better myself at riding and learn from my mistakes ![]() |

Kudos for sharing and posting that up for others to learn from too. I know that'll stay with me. Looked brutal.
As others have said, maybe the driver was slowing because of sun in is / her eyes. Really unfortunate situation. All you could have done if you'd known (which you couldn't have all that glare) is slow down too, but then someone behind you may have gone into the back of you, and there was no way for you to predict it anyway. Be really interested what any instructors would have to say about solutions in such situations. Hope you're feeling ok tomorrow (after the adrenalin has left and aches might set in a bit more). Glad you seem to have walked away from it ok. Last edited by Adam Ef; 19-02-16 at 05:17 PM. |

Holy f*cking sh*t, that was horrific.
The sun was truly blinding. I suspect the driver was equally dazzled and had slowed right down. I don't wear sunglasses or have a sunvisor but I'll certainly rethink that now! I'm really glad (and amazed) to hear you're OK after that, a 45mph smash is no fun at all. You must have been a cat in a former life to a) land without injury and b) escape injury when the bike landed on top of you. |

Hi All, just a quick update. Received a phone call from the driver that I crashed into; he's really laid back about it all and was more concerned about me being alright. He gave me his side of the story and said that he could just about see cars slowing down in the distance, so he decided to slow down in advance out of precaution; but he did agree that the sun that morning was ridiculously low and bright.
It's funny because he said he wasn't surprised that I went into the back of him, and that at the time he was actually hoping that anybody behind would see him slow down and not go into him. Judging from what he told me, I must have flew pretty high off of my bike; he thought I'd went over his roof when he looked in the rear mirror; only to come crashing back down. As for damage to his car, he's got a small scratch on the boot and a dent in the bumper. He's agreed to my proposal of not going through insurance and he's going to grab a quote for it to get fixed. He's also agreed that he's not going to take the **** by going to an official dealer and instead he's going to go to a local garage, which was really nice of him. Lastly, he reassured me not to stress about it all. I just want to add, do you guys think that things happen for a reason? I'm currently looking at other jobs/careers and I mentioned this to him after talking about my commute to work. Turns out, he works in recruitment and he might see what he can do for me. Crazy. Perhaps I was meant to meet him, even if it was through this bizarre accident. |

I think you might be right, your luck was in. I now go out to dinner and to cricket with the guy who repaired my elbow after I smashed it up. The ops weren't much fun but the surgeon is and he's become a good friend. Grab those positives and glad you are ok and the other driver is a decent human.
