Re: forth road bridge/queensferry crossing
if the new bridge is to be made motorway then i would presume it will have a hard shoulder. how are learner drivers to get to Edinburgh especially motorcyclists who rely on the bike for work until they can pass their test. with the old bridge the motorway did not start until J1 which allowed learner drivers access to the bridge.

I don't see the point of opening it for 2 days then closing it again.
I'm glad it's a 70mph though! Quote:

Re: forth road bridge/queensferry crossing
i just sent an email to the MSP asking about the issue.
no 50cc, horse drawn carriage or pedestrians on the new bridge as motorway restrictions apply. what about car learner drivers. a loooot of learners from Edin use the KDY test centre. bets they make all learner drivers use the forth bridge. i also asked about horse drawn carriage and such as there were no restrictions before J1 which meant that anybody could cross the forth bridge. |

Re: forth road bridge/queensferry crossing
the traffic on the the M8 onto edinburgh bypass (Hermiston gate) is going to be mayhem. its a joke as it is never mind bottlenecking all the new bridge traffic onto it.

Re: forth road bridge/queensferry crossing
looks like the new crossing isnt becoming a motorway until October/November, so presumably its available for use for learners etc until then? presumably after that the forth bridge will be available for "non-motorway traffic"

Re: forth road bridge/queensferry crossing
well the new bridge is a furkkkking nightmare. i have just spent 3hrs in tailbacks from pretty much newbridge.
they have done exactly the same as the old bridge and got a slip from the roundabout into 2 lanes just before you cross the bridge when they could have merged it further back. tailbacks going other way right up to the dunfermline junction. furkkking disaster and i'm glad i dont have to cross the thing every day. |

not actually ventured down that way yet, might be heading to Glenrothes on Sat on the bike, but the new bridge is closed at the weekend anyway. |
