Re: Aftermarket Speedometer for 2000 SV650 (Y)
I've found the first generation speedometer pretty inaccurate too. Below 50mph it under reads then over 50mph it starts to over read.
Anyone else noticed that? |

I think any aftermarket gauge would look odd till you got used to it, generally it's making a professional looking mount that's more of an issue.
Here's a thread on the US site about installing a Koso gauge, unfortunately he used Photobucket as an image host and they now watermark (by blurring) their images. https://www.svrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113175 I'm guessing you've seen the instructions: https://kosonorthamerica.com/instructions/BB642W10.pdf I did see this too: https://kosonorthamerica.com/shop/mo...0-adapter-kit/ |

If you can find an original speedo which has been involved in a crash, you should be able to unsolder the display to move it across - it's normally the gauge which gets broken.

Personally I generally wouldn't touch any roadbike with non stock gauges unless it was very cheap as I'd just assume it had either been in an accident or done a very high mileage (prior to the speedo change) or both. Plus I'd probably hate the new gauges and just want to fit original Suzuki ones anyway. In short, if you are concerned about future resale, keeping your bike looking like Mr. Suzuki intended is definitely your best option.

A professional repair on it might be another option, there are certainly businesses that specialise in gauge repair, although a used gauge might be cheaper.
Or you could try a D.I.Y. repair - the following guide reckons a few minutes with a hair dryer applied to the BACK of the display could do it http://www.exisle.net/mb/index.php?/...sumer-devices/

Sounds like screen burn, I've not had sv clocks apart enough to see if it's actually viable but it may be as simple as needig some new polarising film/filter.
May only work if you're handy with a soldering iron etc

Re: Aftermarket Speedometer for 2000 SV650 (Y)
Hi just replaced mine after the retifier failed killing everything including battery cdi headlight and tacho.
I bought a chinese one which seems good. heres a couple of things that may help. Modern tachos often don't use coil signal, they use a pulses from the crank trigger. I ran a wire from the pulse in ata the cdi. also the standard speedo rotor has 4 magnets and worked well with the aftermarket speedo. Hope this is helpful |
