Default Jacking up rear end

Hi guys. I have been trying to raise the rear end off the ground to swap my shock out but it feels unsafe. I have put a rear paddock stand on and tried jacking from under the engine but the front lifts off and it wobbles. My aim was to have the back weight just slightly off the paddock stand so if it moves it will be supported but I’ve nothing to get the front end stable with. I have a front stand that lifts from a hole in the lower yoke, has anyone done this before? I don’t have any car stands/supports for turning the pegs over and stabilising it that way

Do you have an A-frame ladder? I use straps to eyelets I put in my joists in the garage. If not invest in jack stands. They are cheap.

I'm a pinch I changed a shock on the side stand with a friend's help. Not recommended...

Two 3 x2 lengths between garage joist and floor then lift the bike up between them- then another piece of 3 x2 between the uprights forming a H. Use straps/ rope to secure bike back end to cross piece. It will not move then.

If you turn the footpegs upside down, you can put jack stands underneath.

I’ll pick up some jack stands in the morning. Eyelets are a good idea too, do they screw directly into the beam?

ABBA stand with front lift and swingarm removal bobbins was the best money I ever spent on motorbikes.... I just leave swingarm removal bobbins in footrest hangers now and use them instead of taking covers off to get to swingarm pivot points for ABBA adaptors that were supplied with stand....

I would love an abba stand. I’ll get definitely get one some day. The bolts aren’t for coming out in the dogbone, with all the hassle of seized bolts etc I had with getting the forks and mudguard off I’m going to give this one to the garage. It’s the last job on the list for this year. Will take her for a spin today instead

ABBA stand makes safely working on the bike so easy.. and the basic stand will transfer to other bikes simply by buying swing arm pivot adaptors, but IMHO it is more cost effective to buy the 'swing arm removal bobbins', which unlike the adaptors that fit into end of swing arm pivot the bobbins are pretty universal to a lot of bikes as they use M8 bolts to attach to footrest hangars, and can be left on the bike for quick and easy lifting without removing any covers.
