Default Now they tell me...

The road from Louth to Market Rasen has (or had) a 60mph speed limit. Starting last year they installed average speed limit cameras as you approach Willingham Woods. I stopped frequenting the biker haunt simply because trying to ensure you don't average over 50 mph (the new limit) for a couple of miles is difficult on a smooth (ish) straight road You are constantly glancing at your speedo. Plus the cameras had the ability to capture instantaneous speed too. 60mph seemed a reasonable speed on the road (for me, at least).

Still, I can't argue that they don't have the desired affect - speed has dropped on the road for all traffic. You could argue that they don't now need to connect them because you will never know if they have or not (until you get a ticket). Just send a maintenance truck to a pole once in a while and word will spread.

The reason given for the installation is: “having a higher-than-average number of collisions resulting in personal injury.”

When you leave WW and head towards Market Rasen the road is straight and it isn't (or wasn't) unusual for riders to leave with front wheel aloft and/or hitting the rev limiter which didn't help.

In the summer there is a lot of coast traffic with many caravans so drivers would take the opportunity to pass having been snarled up in Mkt Rasen. I never saw an accident (in 10 years) but I tended to avoid the area at the weekend when it was busiest.

I had seen that on ,"Look North" . I don't use the place a lot but when I do I usually come in from the other way but thanks for the reminder

I prefer ,"Jenny's" at Hibaldstow ( Bike friendly) when over-the-water from Hull.
