Default Fuel pump

Good morning all. I have a Cagiva 650 Raptor (SV 650 really) !!! The dreaded E10 fuel pretty much destroyed the original pump after winter storage. I sourced what on visual inspection looks like a really clean unit, but, once fitted it allows fuel to pass even before the power is connected. Does this mean the pump is at fault ? Or is it me being thick ?!!? The pump was purchased from E-bay, unfortunately the seller is away until 10/08/24, so obviously I cannot do much until then, regarding returns. Hoping some clever bugger can tell me either way, I'm fairly competent on the spanners, and do not think its me ! A new pump is the best part of £1k !

Yes I wouldnt have though fuel should run through as the drawing in the free online workshop manual shows a spring loaded non return valve in the outlet which should need some pressure to overcome before fuel comes out...

Check the US forum. There are several posts on rebuilding the pumps and or some of the cheaper Alternatives,
