Your air fryer certainly fried itself in record time.... I knew they were quicker, but a regular oven normally lasts decades before frying itself...

![]() Still, it fits with my personal opinion stereotyping that you need to buy 2 (lower cost) Chinese products to get 1 that works.

Remember the old saying 'you buy cheap and you buy twice ' Frustrating that you buy a product with a British name and a big union flag on the packaging and it says 'designed in UK' ( but built in China, like MG cars )

Update to air fryer. Tower were unable to replace my air fryer and offered me the option of picking another model (they didn't say who would pay the difference in price). I declined because they were all much bigger and asked for a refund. They granted my request, asked me to cut off the power cord 1 cm from the chassis and send them a picture to show I'd done it. I am assuming this means they don't want it back so I have started dismantling it searching for the thermal fuse which, I think, is what has blown.
I may have a problem if they now ask for it to be returned... Update 2: found the thermal fuse and it had blown but I had to dismantle everything and cut wires to get there. Wish I'd taken pictures! Seems odd to me that the thermal fuse was rated at 185°C and was strapped to the side of the heating element chassis which can reach 200°C. I had last used it at max temp and I suspect that when it had finished the latent heat popped the fuse. Naturally it would make sense if the fan would continue to run after the frying was complete to cool the unit, so that doesn't happen. Assuming I can remember how to reassemble (not guaranteed) I must remember to lower the temp and let the unit run for a bit longer if it's been used at max. I've ordered a couple of 192°C fuses and the crimps required for installation (soldering thermal fuses can pop them).

Now thoroughly fed up with short, grey, cold, damp days. I could cope better with it if we had a bit more sunshine, or some proper, snowy winter weather, but this is just absolutely bleh.

Things are breaking faster than I can fix them. First the washing machine dampers, second was the CD player (couldn't fix that), third was my new air fryer (now awaiting parts) now it's the turn of the microwave.
It's a Panasonic microwave (must be over 15 years old) and the door latch stopped latching because the spring anchor failed. I drilled the side of the door which is in the shadow of the metal chassis when closed - so no microwave leakage (I hope) and screwed in a tiny self tapper to act as a new anchor. It has fixed the problem for now, the door latches firmly, engages the microswitch and allows power but I may revisit it because my fix entails the spring having a 90° twist which won't be good for longevity (although how much longer will a 15 year plus microwave last anyway?).

If you have a small neon bulb (ne-2 or equivalent) you can test for microwave leaks.
If the neon flickers you have a leak. If the neon doesn't flicker you may not have a leak ![]() Sent from my SM-S918B using Tapatalk

Thank you, I think. ![]() I read that microwave ovens work on 2.4Ghz as do some routers. My router does both 2.4 and 5Ghz but if I switch it to 2.4Ghz, put one laptop with known ip address in microwave, then ping it from another laptop. If the shielding is working I shouldn't get a ping. (and if I turn the microwave on I won't have a laptop ![]()
