World problems - same everywhere
ItchyBoots (Noraly) is now on season 8, riding her Yamaha Tenere (the older, single cylinder one) and is currently in Baghdad. She met up with a friend (a local lady) and toured the copper district (metalworkers). One of the problems the local artisans are struggling with is cheap Chinese imports.
The Tenere has been stolen and recovered but during the theft the wiring harness was cut, it's been temporarily bodged but she no longer has electric start, turn signals etc. and is stopping the bike by stalling it (not sure that's a good idea long term). The German guy who built the Tenere for her is making a new harness but she needs somewhere relatively stable to get it shipped. This is episode 29: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i19btdlqD6w As is often the case, wherever she goes, people are friendly and helpful.

Re: World problems - same everywhere
Yes, I've been following this series. As usual, I don't think a man would get quite as much local assistance and goodwill as she does, but fair play to her for her bravery in undertaking such travels.
As has been commented before by various others, the general public in both Iran and Iraq are extremely nice people, they keep providing food and help etc and so frequently refuse any sort of payment. The border crossings are a shambles however ................
