Not really a gripe, except for the cost.... My front door lock started to get stiff last week, so I called out the locksmith. He was sick, so only managed to get here today, by which time the front door closed but did not lock. Complete new mechanism was needed for the perimeter lock as two small parts had broken and the handle gearbox was cracked.

This could easily go in the SOTD thread as the locksmith came as soon as able, had the parts needed on his van and the lock lasted until he got here. Good service.

I just felt like a grumble! Wallet £200 lighter

Many years ago, we inadvertently locked ourselves out of our flat (both of us forgot to take our keys, and the front door had a Yale lock).

We called a locksmith who came quickly, looked over the door and got out a sort of pistol-grip device with some irregular-shaped pins (like hair-grip pins) sticking out of the front. He inserted the pins into the Yale tumbler, squeezed the trigger and turned. Lock opened in literally 10 seconds. Made me realise just how easy it would be to get into peoples' houses if you've got the right tools ...

Its a perimeter locking UPVC door. Some pins were broken in the top and bottom hooks plus the gearbox casing by the door handle was cracked. (Turns out the missus was forcing the outside handle home instead of telling me it was stiff). He replaced the perimeter lock 'bar' mechanism and the gearbox. At least an hour's labour. The guy told me what was wrong, showed me the issues and told me how much before he went ahead. £200 seemed fair to me so I OK'd the work.

I'm only moaning that its an unexpected expense and its been a 7-week pay month....

Vendors. Being a bean counter I often have to get grumpy with vendors who take the p*** and get stroppy when I withhold payment until they get things right. Our customer, part of the NHS, can and get annoyed at us (Finance) if we don't stop things so when I found out today that some interfering middle manager ignored my advice and told a recruitment agency they did not have to repay an error I'd found I went into orbit. It wound me up so much I've burst a blood vessel in my eye... Looks horrible. Best keep me away from the photos at the wedding I'm going to on Friday!
