Furthermore, draconian enforcement of this measure will result in nothing more than further cynicism for the road traffic laws of this country.
In my opinion, respect breeds respect. If drivers are respected, they will show respect to the law. If they are patronised and restricted in speed in places where it is clearly not beneficial in the slightest then they will ignore speed limits where they ARE necessary also.

There have also been calls for a more difficult driving test, I do not believe this is beneficial. A test by its very nature is "jumping through a hoop" to obtain a license, it is my firm belief that the current driving test is far too biased towards low speed manoeuvring around town et cetera and that a few hours of tuition on the principles of advanced motoring would give new drivers a far better start than making the current test harder still. You will find that accident statistics support this, FAR more young drivers are KSI on the roads due to not understanding the principles of cornering at reasonable speeds than those not managing a textbook perfect turn-in-the-road.

Respect breeds respect, enforce the law vigorously against those who drink and drive, those who do not have insurance and those who endanger others. Seek to educate drivers in life saving and useful skills. Do not criminalise those making perfectly reasonable and safe progress as they have been doing for years.

I hope this email will go some way as to convince you to oppose this change to NSL on behalf of your constituency, and on behalf of the motoring public at large.

Yours

I haven't had the chance to email the local MP yet - but living where I do, I have the advantage that he lives on a farm not far from here & I see him in person from time to time.

However, to give folks something else to do about this whole issue, there's a multiple choice questionnaire direct to those that are making the decisions, here: http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/...tationresponse

Nice one Baph.

I put that I strongly disagree with the speeding, but they should be looking at the other issues strongly! And obviously told them I didn't like the rural speed limit. grrr.

I might end up with a load of 50mph speed limit signs in my room if the government carries on.
