GOTD, black ice. Came off the push bike twice yesterday morning on my way to work. No major injuries, just a skinned hand and knee, bruised hip and swollen finger.

I am but not as bad as I was last night. Do they make body armour for cyclists?

They do actually. It's made for mountain bikers really but should work on a road bike ok.

That might be overkill for a commute

Road conditions were a bit odd yesterday. No sign of any frost or ice near my home (about 3miles from Shrewsbury) just wet and dirty. The affected roads were as you near the river Severn. I can only guess that there was a cold breeze running up the river banks dropping the temp to below freezing.

I'm now wondering if I need grippier tyres.

On my daily commute into the office (10 miles from SE9 to Westminster) dressed in armoured everything - Boots, gloves, jacket, jeans, lid more often than not riding at pretty much the same speed as a cyclist I often wonder just how ouchy it is when they deck the pushbike wearing 2 ounces of lycra and a dinky little skullcap (if anything at all).

I think I'd do the same faced with a 10 mile trip. 90% of my journey is on cycle paths just to keep away from idiots in cars.
