Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Really trying to support a real shop and buy running shoes. The second time I've gone out today though and got nowhere.
The first time was a few days ago. Local -ish shop... stock was sparse and I couldn't get help or attention from staff as much as I tried. The way they avoided eye contact and went out the back when I got near didn't give me confidence they'd be much help anyway. Just young kids put in charge by the manager possibly. I gave up in the end as the stock was looking such a poor selection it wasn't worth the hassle. Hour and a half going out wasted. I gave it another shot today and at the next shop the guy who owns it refused to let me try anything on without making an appointment. I don;t know how you're meant to know this before travelling as their website doesn't say anything and there's not sign up on the shop. I tried to explain Id travelled a long round trip to visit and am not often able to get into Bristol in their opening times due to work and it's slog of a journey. Nope. No luck. Left not having even got further than the door. The owner seemed visibly ****ed off with me not knowing about their appointment policy too and didn't even suggest he cold make a future appointment for me. Another hour and half wasted and still not even managed to try anything on. I've given up and ordered online again.. which I'll probably send back when they turn out to be the wrong size or fit.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Well, having taken them out of the box earlier they seem pretty good. I've now charged the batteries for the required time and given them a quick indoors and they seem very good. Although the battery time on maximum heat is said to be only 2 - 2.5 hours.... I think they'll be pretty good, but they'll get properly tested tomorrow morning at 6:30am at work out on the golf course.... I'll do my best to remember to report back.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
We were in Brighton in spring last year visiting The Monkey and I noticed a cycle shop while I was waiting outside a shop (or six). It specialised in e-bikes so I went to go in and found it locked. A small note on the window said appointment only but it was empty, save for two staff members sat chatting behind the counter who both ignored me. Absolute madness so I sympathise Adam.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
We have appointments at our bike shop for servicing, but anyone can call by and buy things and we do some small repairs , punctures etc on the spot too. I just can't afford another hour and a half trip to see if I can just try on shoes. I've bought online and they've arrived and worked really well for a semi off road 7k run yesterday. The same as the ones I wanted to try on at the shop, but sadly the money has gone to some faceless warehouse internet site instead of into someones pocket locally. I tried.
Today's gripe is that the Street Triple appears to have killed another battery. It's sorned at the moment and I put it on charge every couple of weeks as it killed a battery sitting for a month last winter. It's drained to 8v in the last two weeks though and isn't coming back to life. Fairly new battery too. I've had the alarm in ferry mode too as that drained the battery very quickly last year when left alarmed. --- need to find some smiles to post...

Is it a standard alarm, or after market one? Unless you need it for insurance purposes, i'd get rid of it (if possible). They're always a source of pain waiting to go wrong the moment you need them to work. |

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
It's declared on the insurance, so in the terms. Next time I'll work out how to remove it and not put it on the insurance quotes.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I never declare security devices with insurance company's. I am not an organised person (just ask the wife)
so the time I forget to activate will be the time I get burgled. I uprated the house alarm and the night the garage got broken into was the night it was not alarmed. Luckily the night they came back with bolt croppers to remove the bike chains it was! |
