20 is a ridiculous speed. Feels so wrong going that slow and just makes traffic bunch up

I tend to agree. 20 is perfect for schools and quiet residential streets but not on main thoroughfares.

As with most legislation, it's a blunt instrument. For example, I often ride through Coedpoeth, the small town near Wrexham, on the way to into North Wales.

The main street is very narrow with a school, lots of shops, and lots of pensioners trying to cross the road without looking. A 20 limit is absolutely the right thing there.

But as you leave the town, the current 30 limit (which will become a 20) extends for over a mile into open countryside with nothing but a couple of farms. There's absolutely no need for that section of road to be a 20.

I suspect widespread ignoring of the limits will take place. I fear that will lead to people just ignoring all limits as speeding will become accepted as 'normal' and speed limits will lose credibility. The only way to avoid this would be robust enforcement of the 20 limits everywhere and not just hot spots, in addition to general limit enforcement that goes on now. We all know that won't happen.

"Capitalise the profits, socialise the losses".
The water companies intend to spend £10 billion to stop pumping sewage into rivers. Great, but...

"The companies said on Thursday they were ready to invest an additional £10bn, but it could mean higher bills."

Why should it make any difference to bills, isn't that the cost of doing business? You fix the things your business is doing badly, you are not a nationalised organisation and you make a profit.

Bloody car dealerships. Gone are the days of knowing your **** from your elbow! Wifey just took the car in for some warranty work, which when booked we said she'd wait for for. When she arrived for 12:20 appointment they announced they needed the car 'at least two days' and couldn't even guarantee to have finished the work by 3pm tomorrow! We need the car this weekend so she is on her way home now.

The annoying thing is why did they offer a midday appointment for something that needs two days? Courtesy car and pickup was refused when asked. This is a clear case of trying to slip in extra warranty work around normal services / repairs and not scheduling the work correctly - IMO.

I am glad wifey was free and I hadn't taken a day off for this! It's still wasted 3 hours of her day though.

Similar happened to my SIL. That was warranty work too.

Its not just the time and inconvenience John, but the 70 mile round trip. They act like they are doing you a favour by deigning to work on your car.

Absolutely. Main dealers have always always had an arrogant attitude towards their customers.

Unexpectedly lively last night. Had a bath, pulled the plug and my son shouted up the stairs "there's water flooding out of the downstairs bog, put the plug back in!"
So dealing with insurance home emergency etc to sort out a problem with the main soil stack / drain and deal with contaminated carpets etc. Lovely.
