Looks like you need to be discussing "they don't just happen". I agree, except in very limited circumstance of mechanical failure etc. which from the riders POV can be totally unavoidable.

Back on topic, ish. I don't think he was riding "with his brain removed", he just twanged the throttle cable on a straight road with little traffic. And didn't spontaneously fall off in doing so, so I don't see the problem.

At a 122mph (genuine question as I've never been near that speed) can you see or react to junctions or hidden drives or cars emmerging properly? That's the only problem I can see with him doing this speed, but if he knows the road maybe not an issue.

I heard 100mph+ tunnel vision increases and everything gets a bit warp speed.

thats why its about time and place, if you can see its clear, no turnings etc then it can be perfectly safe

On that footage, as I suspect with much of that section of the A361 there are not many driveways or even junctions.
That doesn't mean that nothing unexpected might happen - as previously mentioned a deer could jump out (although I doubt they would in heavy traffic )
At 122 nothing special happens, it's not that fast tbh, but yes it would take a fair old time/distance to come to a complete halt.

Should I take it from the above that you've never ridden in excess of 100mph? 100mph is cruising speed, ffs.

IME the tunnel vision thing can kick in around 140 but it depends on the bike and road more than anything - 130 on a small bike can feel rather frantic but on something built for the speed it can be almost sedate.

Not really any different to <99mph. Depends on the road. Good concept I seem to remember is called "speed of perception" or something like, basically if you can stop in the distance you can see to be clear then that is a reasonable speed.

As for hitting a deer or something, that is random chance, and you are bloody lucky to hit one and not go tarmac surfing.

Aye I've not seen the footage as my computer can't handle it but that's what I assumed. If you youtube 'deer jump motorcycle' there's a decent video of a deer jumping over a biker.

I don't see why there's such a massive fuss about it, but I get the feeling if it was my kid on the back I'd be tempted to ride to letter of the law (within reason!) so as his mum wouldn't castrate me!

I cant see the problem with havin your kid on the back while going for it, but only in the right circumstances. I took my 16 year old daughter over the mountain at the Isle of Man and went considerable faster than 120mph when the road was clear and there was no side roads. She loved it and wants to do it again if she goes to the TT with me in the future. However i wouldnt let her go on anyone else's bike at all as i understand the risks and am not trying to impress her like a boyfriend would if he had a bike. There are a lot more dangers out there for youngsters to worry about.

Agree Gazza!!!!!!

Nothing wrong with speed. It only takes longer to slow down

If you think speeds the ultimate killer, then i'd suggest putting those newspapers down.

I've seen some speeds above 150 in cars and bikes, and im still here, alive, safe, and no bunnies or children were harmed either.

Bikes and some cars are DESIGNED to do these speeds. Its only the rider/driver thats the issue. But at these speeds you should be 100% focussed on what your doing, and be able to see and react to whatever is in front.

I don't see 122 as a particulary fast speed at all. I can be up to 120 and back down to 70 within a few seconds. Whats so dangerous other than some pillock decided to pull out on you (but you should always be ready for this anyway).
