I'd have to travel a long way up to blast down the M6

Thanks for the directions though, I'll probably avoid motorways unless I'm not out of bed in time, in which case I'll do exactly what you've suggested.

If I do drag myself out of my pit, I'll come along the M42 (necessary evil), thru Kidderminster, Bridgenorth, Shrewsbury, then I'll just meet you all at Chester services.

I was looking at meeting you at Pentrefoelas, but by the time I get to Oswestry, there or Chester Services are equidistant.

Which road is nicer on a bike? Shrewsbury to Chester via:-

1. Oswestry/Wrexham - A5/A483
2. Ellesmere/Wrexham - A528/A483
or
3. Whitchurch A49/A41

The map looks like option 2 should be nicer, but sometimes the map tells lies and you end up wishing you'd gone the other way.

Ellesmere, no contest. A5 very quick if you running late, very wide for fast filtering.

Definitely NOT no 1

No 2 is great up to Ruabon, where you join the A483. A483 is a dual carriageway and very dull.

No 3 is pretty good too, no dual carriageway except for a small part of the Whitchurch by pass. A49 is fast and flowing, the A41 is OK if a little er straight.

Ralph, I had made other arrangements for the Saturday =- going out witht he family - and I suspect that as a result of the day switch I won't be able to come. Damn weather Need to make a few discreet enquiries and will post up later. But if I can come, I suggest that I meet you in Shrewsbury, probably at the Weeping Cross roundabout - the road from Much Wenlock crosses the A5 (you can't turn right onto the A5 here) and then after 100m goes into the roundabout, there's a layby right next to it.

Will let you know.

Ed

Conwy isn`t that big Carlos and i`m sure you`ll see the car park in question... it`s right next to the castle but if you get lost give someone a ring for directions. I`ll pm you my mobile no.

Ed i`m so sorry this has messed your plans up and I really hope you can make it tomorrow. I`m really looking forward to it and I know that we`re gonna have a nicer day thru going on the saturday. If it`d stayed at Sunday we`d have memories of rain, cold and wet bike gear... instead we`re gonna have memories of sunshine, warmth, ice cream, sunburn and for you guys lots of women in shorts, scanty tops and wearing next to nothing!
