Actually that's a good point, the mileage rules should have changed to keep up with fuel costs, definately a problem there.

See, thing is, the NHS get past it because they built a "community" hospital in Stranraer with an A+E....except don't have the staff to man it properly and a lot of the time, it's downgraded to a minor injuries unit.

The DGRI is actually 72.6 miles away according to google and Ayr hospital is 52 but it's a different PCT so DGRI is always the first port of call.

So yeah, although city living in general can be more expensive, at least you have access to a decent bloody hospital that you can get to in less than an hour by ambulance!

I have 3 A&E's within 8 miles of my house...go figure. The NHS is weird at the best of times.

It's madness isn't it??

I have seen people with very obviously broken wrists go into the A+E at Stranraer on a Saturday night and get a bit of tubi grip and sent home because their is either no doctor or radiologist on and ask them to come back on Monday...with a properly broken wrist.....Mental.

Could probably get airlifted to Belfast in no time.

lets be honest ,were british so a few people will write some strongly worded letters ,nothing will be done and we will keep paying well above the odds

You could...normally to Glasgow though. But even still, there are only two helicopters that respond to emergencies in the whole of Scotland.....
