We were in Heartbeat country last year and the Moors Railway was only running heritage diesels because of the lineside fire risk. Was nice to see some big blue locos from the era I remember.

I took the NEX for a spin the other day, set it to black and white and snapped away. Great camera for street photography and fits in the pocket a treat. The cyclist was shot at around 1/50 while panning. Will definitely have to try this some more.

Had this beauty hatch from it's nymph case on my pond this afternoon. It's still hanging on to the plant now as the rain's been too heavy for it to dry off, inflate its wings and fly off. It'll be away tomorrow with the drier weather forecast.

Female Broad Bodied Chaser dragonfly.

Great stuff, John. The Guzzi V8 and its crank was a great shot. And that Suzi V4 250 is a jewel.

In the late 50s my dad had an NSU Max in exactly that colour and trim - same Denfeldt dual seat etc. I'm not sure why he bought it, as they were stupidly expensive at the time, I believe a Tiger 110 650 was only £15 more brand new. But he loved it, and I suppose that's the only reason you need ...

There are some very quirky bikes at the museum. The NSU Max had a very strange valve gear arrangement which I've never seen before. See below. One of the images is of a IL 4 two stroke that's only 50cc. I think it was a Mitchell.

Ah yes, the Ultramax cam drive. My dad used to wang on about it, completely over-engineered. Also odd that they used that when their world-championship winning twins used Ducati-like bevel OHC cam drives.

Have not been to Sammy's museum for a long time. I see you snapped the Ascot-Pullin. I've only ever seen one other, in the NMCM in Birmingham. Lady Poppy's maiden name was Pullin and her dad was pretty sure a distant uncle of his was one of the founders.

Sat on Jericho hill with a flask of tea, watching the rain heading my way. Glad I had the waterproofs with me!
