I forgot you are a hardy soul Ours is on the thermostat, so if its cold enough it comes on, otherwise it does not. Much fiddling with TRVs has got the room temps just about right. The heating has come on the past few mornings and we had a frost last night.

My house inside rear door lock jammed with the handle in the "up" position and wouldn't go down, locking me out the house. Resorting to brute force and ignorance I forced it and managed to get back inside and the lock mechanism seemed to be functional albeit with a drooping handle.
I called a locksmith and he told me exactly what had happened and quoted £195 to fix it today. I looked on youtube and found a video on how to remove the mechanism (it's full door length) and the locksmith was correct - part of the gearbox was bent.
I started looking for complete assemblies and they were about £95 but on investigating further I found the gearbox could be ordered separately - mine is a GU Ferco 35/92 old style. You can buy them for £30.
I've ordered one and cancelled the locksmith.
Hopefully, this will end in SOTD and not OMG/bugger!

My fence blew down, the felt sheet blew off my shed and my conservatory roof is leaking like a sieve.

The felt was mostly in tact, lying on the grass, so I put it back on the roof and used the broken fence pieces to screw it down. Should keep the rain out until this storm has passed.

I'm thinking about buying a little blow heater to dry out the inside of the shed a little.
I've now got 5 buckets catching all the drips in the conservatory.

Fun times

Yeah it's not letting up today either. The wind is just blowing all the rain up the slope of the conservatory roof and under the flashing.

The kitchen bin has now been drafted to join the fight with the 5 buckets

We're lucky here then. Lots of rain but no wind at all.

Windy here on the Humber estuary and about to get much wetter.

Here's a pretty, active map showing wind directions and speeds:

Urgghh! down with a cold and feeling very ropey indeed. Been quite chesty for a week or so, which was obviously the virus getting ready to give me the full works. I'll do a C19 test later just to be on the safe side, then it's a trip to the shop to stock up on paracetamol.

Hope you shake it off faster than we have, Gary. We're all still a bit under the weather after nearly 3 weeks. Covid tests were negative, but who knows?

I suppose it highlights that for decades we've been underestimating just how crap an 'ordinary' winter bug can make you feel.
