It's that time of the year John. Hedge cutting and relying on passing traffic to clear up the debris.

You probably haven't heard of Mike Johnson, he's the new Speaker in the US Congress, If anything happens to the President and Vice President he becomes the leader of the US. He's from Louisana and his views are a little "out there"...

1) The Earth is 6000 years old.
2) Evolution is bogus.
3) Wants a Federal ban on all abortions (not just State decided)
4) Climate change does not exist.
5) Gay marriage should be abolished and conversion therapy enforced.
6) Religion should be taught in schools (he didn't say which religion but I'm guessing it's not Islam). This is against their Constitution (but so was insurrection)
7) Trump won the 2020 election.
8 ) Supports helping Israel but not Ukraine.
9) Supports a Muslim ban on all US immigrants (as per Trump)
10) Against people getting divorced (he has a Covenant marriage - no divorce without extensive counselling).
11) He's part of a Republican group that is prepared to shut down the US economy to get what they want which causes turmoil worldwide.
12) All our "rights" come from God.

I'm not saying he's a nut job, well actually, that's exactly what I'm saying.

I've never understood the Americans and their relationship with religion. They seem to have more than their fair share of nutty evangelical preachers. On the one hand they have a sophisticated technological society and on the other they have nut jobs like this guy who's beliefs go back to the stone age.

Don't forget how America was founded. The Pilgrims left England, not because they were persecuted (as is often told) but because England was too soft and they wanted the right to persecute non religious/believers more.

Today, the Republican hard right just see it as another tool in the culture war to bash the Democrats.

Indeed. Although the commandment 'thou shalt not kill' doesn't seem to register too highly in their worldview.

Their worldview seems to be thoroughly apocryphal old testament. Don't suppose they would have much time for the teachings of the fellow who's name was used for the er...Christian church!

Yes, 'love thy neighbour as thyself' doesn't rank very high either!

My gripe is Royal Mail. I had to return an item to a supplier and they gave me a Royal Mail tracked label to print. RMs website said I could use their drop box to drop it off, which I did as it was more convenient. That was the 20th of October, and the package then disappeared into the ether that is their system, no scans or updates. Visited the local sorting office, no joy, the person there couldn't give two hoots. Called customer services who basically said that if the depot can't find it then what chance do we have? Lol. Well it finally arrived today at the supplier slightly soggy and with a damaged label. Basically if you drop something off into these boxes and it doesn't get scanned then your insurance for a tracked item is useless as you can't prove they have the item. So basically take your item to a post office and get a proof of posting receipt.

Car insurance.

I am with DirectLine, never claimed, 10+ years of NCB (only been back in UK 10 years). Last year I drove 984 miles in my car but I have told them I want to cover an estimated 3000 miles. 13 year old Yaris, locked garage overnight, only driver, no breakdown cover or other extras - last year £200, this year £300. That's a lot of inflation - 50%!

Went to ComparetheMarket - Aviva quoted £160 (they were the cheapest), but many others quoted <£250. DirectLine used to be cheap, what happened?
