Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I seem to recall a time before the mid eighties when dental treatment was free on the NHS. Wonder who it was who put a stop to that?

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Dentistry seems to have died by a thousand cuts in the NHS, so I guess successive governments are to blame. The last 15 years certainly put the final nails in the coffin. There are NHS dentists but they are at capacity and have long waiting lists. The dentist I used were an NHS practice but closed their list about 10 years ago to new NHS patients. 3 years ago they 'fired' the NHS patients and are a private practice now.
I really feel for those not able to pay for treatment as they have a terrible time finding a dentist. My step-son managed to get taken on by a practice in Queensferry due to the fact they have a 2-year old child so there was an NHS 'family deal'. Dentistry really should be available on the NHS. |

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Doctors not much better! Had an appointment Wed PM to discuss my low blood pressure. When I got there new Doctor said its on the highside! Different Dr Of course , no continuity. Took 12 days in May to get a Drs appointment to discuss a peculiar feeling in my leg/foot. (after tele consultation and being sent to two different physios. Now waiting for the DVLA to decide whether I am fit enough to be let loose on the road again. Not a happy bunny.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
My best M8 passed away over 18 months ago. Part of his troubles were high blood pressure. Since then I've taken mine and other things more seriously coz of age ( 67). I bought one of these,
https://shorturl.at/uH1K1 I don't use it often as I get regular checks when they are at local Supermarkets so this may be useful to you, https://ourfuturehealth.org.uk I'm going for a free Cholesterol and Blood pressure test on Monday with Future Health. I usually go once a year. I've also had free CT scans with them and a heart check etc

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Thanks for the info R1ff. I will look a Future Health in some detail, I have been fighting HBP for over 10 years and do have a monitor, (on a pile of pills now! ) I never did get round to balancing the SV carbs will do so if the DVLA gives me the ok. I probably only averaged 500 miles a year on the SV (beat you Ruffy) but they were precious miles and I miss riding the bike alot. Funnily enough I did start Suuzy yesterday and rode her around the drive (I have lost the peripheral vision on my left side thats the stumbling block. Its hard and frustrating not being mobile. I have even been pressurised not to ride my push bike ! but they can Harry with that, just need it to stop raining long enough so I can catch up with the garden. This forum has just about kept me sane, something to look forward to each day so thanks one and all.

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
It's no fun getting older. At 67 years old I'm conscious of my body aging and making adaptations. I had to laugh at one of Henry Coles recent programs where he asked Fuzz, Millyard and Guy how many tablets they were on. Most were on 4 or more with Henry on 7. Henry stormed off having lost the challenge again.
I'm on 3 tablets at the moment for the first time in my life but they're all low dosage and deal with blood pressure and cholesterol. I've also bought a BP monitor just to keep an eye on things. I also asked for a PSA test recently not because I've any symptoms but more for peace of mind. Sent from my moto g(50) using Tapatalk

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
I'm only on 1 low dosage 10mg Statin and I reckon I could stop that. I changed my diet some years ago and reduced most fatty foods intake. This year I've been determined to lose weight so changed my diet again. I only have one meal a day anyway and now have Salads during the week e.g. Egg/Chicken/Tuna/Sardines Salads. This also cuts down my gas cooking bill
If I get hungry during the day it's just a banana/orange or a Cheap Aldi Activa yoghurt. I do treat myself to a few choccy biscuits after evening meal and I still have a few beers on the weekend so it's not a Spartan life I now do 3 20 minute 5k sessions on an Exercise bike and have lost over two stones over the past 3/4 months. I still have a trapped nerve problem in my left shoulder/arm. Topical creams/Tablets etc both shop bought and from the GP have only reduced the pain a bit. I've done load of different physio exercises and they aren't much use. What has helped is actually going the other way and using an old dumbbell weight and heavy exercise on the arm. I'm also just started trying out this supposed health benefit mix. https://helloglow.co/turmeric-honey-...orning-elixir/ I just use Aldi stuff e.g. Their honey/Turmeric and Ground black pepper. It seems to be reducing the pains in my Shoulder/Neck and Arm already. Even if this is a placebo affect I'll take it

A very wise move. I would strongly recommend any male over the age of 50 has a PSA test, simply because early detection gives the widest range of treatment options and the best outcomes. I was diagnosed when I was 54, and it was already Stage IV (spread to bones and elsewhere) and inoperable. I'd had no symptoms apart from a slightly increased urgency to pee, which I'd put down to ageing. So the moral is, don't wait: get a PSA test done. |

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?
Re the PSA test. My GP practise wasn't keen on giving me a test citing that it can be unreliable and lead to more intrusive tests. They did actually test me for a whole range of things besides PSA to get a better overall picture.
