you also have to remember that the UK and a lot of other countries deforested before the discovery of coal. we are not talking that long ago either. has the climate changed that much in that time.. no and yes but for different reasons.

i dont agree with slash and burn tactics but if its going to happen then at least sell the wood instead of burning it.

dont get me wrong i'm all in favour of saving forests of any kind but when third world countries rely on making money to buy consumer items and feeding their family with growing crops instead of looking at trees then what can we do. its our fault not theirs.

Might all be pointless anyway the way things are going in the world - nuclear weapons haven't gone away !

there is absolutely nothing wrong with chemical (man made) fertilisers. if you understood how a plant feeds itself you would understand that it dont care how it gets its nutrients. its consuming the exact same thing from the earth its grown in be it organic or chemical. its all to do with how the roots (and leaves) take up different nutrients (mostly metals) depending on need.

without chemical fertilisers most of the planet would die from hunger. its only the ignorant that dos not understand how it works.

nitrogen is nitrogen...

what is a problem is pesticides.
It's not the fertilizers that are the problem (for me atleast) it's the pesticides.

There now follows a Gloom Report, be warned...

It takes between 200 and 400 years to make 1 cm of topsoil. It takes 3000 years to make it fertile.https://expandusceramics.com/qa/how-...h-of-soil.html

Soil is becoming less fertile because of over farming and the demand for increasing productivity. https://www.bbc.com/future/bespoke/f...ng-from-farms/
Lincolnshire produces about 20% of UK food but I don't seem to see any fields been laid "fallow" any more - it used to be a requirement (but isn't now).

To compensate for low fertility, extra fertilizers are needed. The run off from the excess gets into the water supply and can cause blue baby syndrome (caused by excess nitrogen). In rivers and in the sea the excess fertilizers cause algae blooms - these take out the oxygen from the water and kill anything living in it. Some of these blooms are toxic, most are irritants.

and the delightfully named seasnot:
https://www.theguardian.com/environm...global-heating.

So over use of pesticides is a problem but so is over use of fertilizers.

(please collect your anti-depressants on your way out)

It all comes back to human population being totally out of control - if the population was nearer 3 billion than 8 billion we could all do what we wanted and soil fertility, overfishing, climate change would not be a problem..

If a fraction of the action that has been taken and the money spent on climate change had been spent on population control ( trouble is all the major religions want as many babies as possible to be added to 'their religion' to make it the largest.... its in their business model - and f** k the planet ).

China had the right idea in limiting the amount of children you can have. shame the rest of the world never joined in the idea.

In theory it was a good idea but in practice it's been a disaster. Chinese parents didn't want girl children so they now have a disparity of roughly 120 boys to every 100 girls. (it's usually closer to 105 boys to 100 girls). This is causing a social stress because men cannot find wives (and the astute women are insisting on only pairing with well off men). The next problem with containing population is that you end up with lots of old people being supported by fewer younger people which is what many countries are heading for now.
You would need a system of balance where each death allows a new birth but that isn't going to happen any time soon.
