(probably more than you need to know for open water course, but nobody ever died of too much information) Work it through in stages. Pressure at depth in bar is (metres of water/10) + 1 = ? Multiply by Surface Air Consumption = litres per minute at depth Gives how many litres total? (maths is much easier if you find anyone talking about feet of water, psi or lbs then punch them square on the nose cos this isn't 1957)

54 litres per minute at 20m?
(20/10)+1=3 3x18=54

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
If you've got a 15l tank, then 1 bar from the tank provides you with 15 litres of air. So divide your air consumption by the tank capacity to work out how many bar you consume per minute from the tank.
Once you've got the hang of this calculation you can do it for every part of the dive to work out whether you have enough air in the tank for your planned dive. |

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
Does anyone know what the rules on dive knives are? As I understand it you are not allowed to carry a knife without good reason. I'm talking about the pry tip type. The other option is shears or a z-knife.

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
I can't remember exactly, but it's something like sub-3 inch folding blade for UK legal carry, however owning and using of any knife is still legal, it just has to be carried in such a way that access isn't easy , so packet away, in a locked bag or something along those lines when on the way to or from a dive site, but if in doubt ask at your local old bill shop.

I wish. Got to have an op of my upper jaw which involves the sinus cavity. It will be six months to a year before it fully heals.
