Hello people

I been away on business so that explains radio silence.

Right. A few issues me 'andsomes (as they'd say where I been), anyone guess where??? Put it this way, you can't go much further without falling off the edge and the clotted cream is very nice!

The A49 doesn't actually go through Wem... it goes close though. From t'north come down the A49, it's twisty, stay on A49 round the Whitchurch by pass. Stay on the A49 headed for Shrewsbury. After Whitchurch the road splits into the A41 and the A49 - you'll need the right lane for the A49. It's clearly signed, you'd be a complete arsrehole to miss it, but there are a few of those on here, one in particular.... Long straight bit, then the road goes up a hill (Prees by pass), down t'other side, and after a bit you take a right for Wem. I forget the road number, B something or other, but it is clearly signed. About 2 - 3 miles along there, nice open bends, the campsite (Lower Lacon Caravan Park) is on the right hand side.

I will be waiting at reception from about 10am so don't fret about who's meeting and greeting etc cos I will be there As you ride into the site, you'll probs see my Disco parked up on the left. There's a strictly enforced 10mph speed limit on the site, as there will be families with young kids. We'll be up the far end.

Food and tinnies - the Co-Op in Wem - out the campsite and turn right into Wem. Across the level crossing, (NB, if the barriers come down, DON'T be tempted to jump them even though you'll be stuck there a while as they bring the barriers down ages before the train comes - there are cameras and the local rag always has a report about someone being prosecuted) into town (it's only ickle) and it's a turn on the left, big parking area (free). There's a campsite shop next Reception, sells most basics.

Barbies - you can't have a BBQ on the ground. I could bring my gas one - good idea or not??? Plus I have a pile of wood to put disposables on. I'll be there in the Landy so plenty room to fetch stuff. And I live only 7 miles away so no dramas if we need anything else, we can have a rideout to Baschurch

Ride - route's a corker

Ed, is there any way of getting a fire pit or something for the Saturday night?
Just thinking at night it gets a bit nippy and it's a good focal point for socialising

Hmm, not sure. Maybe a farmer friend of mine can lend me his digger bucket - I'll find out generally. Good thinking though. The site doesn't have one, I asked a while back. In France last year the site at Bourg St Maurice did have one, it was a huge cut-in-half-lengthways gas cylinder, with a whacking great cast iron trestle from a local foundry, it took 5 of us to lift it

Firepit. May have found the answer. Would have to buy it (£60) and would hope to recover some cost by renting it out to other org camp meets. Thoughts???

It should say "Crookfest" on the side, 'cos that's what the guy who is selling them for that money is.

If you want one, go buy it now here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/205-Litre-45-G...-/360358931783 and I'll collect it for you on Monday because I'm going to High Wycombe for a meeting. Then you just have to meet me half way one evening to pick it up. I'll even drill the holes in it for you!

You might get one locally though if you just go and ask any back street garage.
