Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Not really tinkering but cleaned and reproofed leathers and boots. Leathers are a set of Dainese I bought off another orger 6 or 7 years ago and I'd forgotten how well they come up when they're done. Boots now look much better too.

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Weirdly enough I cleaned my A* leather jacket and jeans today. First time I've ever cleaned them in over five years. Forgot how black leathers could be. Used a set of cleaner and conditioner I got with a Spike jacket a good fifteen years ago and forgot I had until they turned up the other day when searching for something else. My ten year old boots got some Kiwi treatment as well so they didn't spoil the overall look. First time I've ever cleaned those boots...
I'm off to lunch tomorrow with my old team at my last clients so wanted to make a good (clean) impression. I'd love to go back there and I know they have a few projects kicking off soon so fingers crossed!!

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
I start with a sponge and clean water just to clear the worst off and then it's these three.
kit spring clean2 by garynortheast, on Flickr The Nikwax cleaner first. Then I use the stuff on the left which has a black dye in it. That covers any scuffs or faded bits. Then the leather restorer is last. It makes a pretty decent job even on my fairly venerable set of Dainese. kit spring clean4 by garynortheast, on Flickr The boots come up well too. kit spring clean3 by garynortheast, on Flickr |

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Cool cheers. The most my gear has seen is a wet cloth so it could probably do with some proper care

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
Well worth doing. I'm too skint most of the time to keep replacing kit so I figure it's cheaper to spend a little on looking after it!

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
saddle soap. dont believe the pizz people have said about using it on leather bike gear. damp sponge and a wipe in the tin then wipe the leather, then buff.
another trade secret amongst leather furniture retailers is to dissolve pure soap flakes in warm water (tbl spoon in 500ml) in a trigger sprayer then let it cool. spray then wipe. to supple leather use either nivia hand cream or lanolin. you can buy leather wipes (like wet wipes) for on the go cleaning if your really anal. |

Re: What have you tinkered with today?
It wasn't today it was yesterday but a simple oil and filter change took the "enter your choice of language" the filter was stuck fast must have taken an hour or two to get off after using what I refer to as the last resort tool.
In the end it did get done and all is well (except from noticing more and more how cheap Suzuki's Bolts and Engine covers are they look terrible for age/mileage imo.)
