Not going to China until the first week in October so lots of time yet. SLR should be easy - but what lens is more difficult.
The Himatic looks good. I'd not seen one of those before. Where are all the ones for buttons?

Yoko, be careful of rangefinders from the 1970s, they use a unavailable mercury battery. You can get replacements but have to drop the iso setting a notch to compensate.

Thanks, I didn't know that about the batteries. I'll remember.
XD7 is meant to be very good but not so many around, which is why I had to make do with an XD5.

You can use zinc-air (hearing aid) ones as they have a similar voltage (but last about 6 weeks after opening regardless of use), or you can have the camera adjusted for 1.5v batteries, or just work out the difference as Kenzie says. Some cameras are unaffected for various reasons - the Yashica Electro 35 is probably the best known reason, it's a big thing though.

I look sometimes for cheap cameras on ebay and keep tripping over Himatics. Not what I'm after so I skip the details and I don't know about the various models, in all honesty. Nothing doing just now as you say but if you check out which models are good then I'll happily keep an eye open.

The XD5 does have a beautiful metal shutter though. Quiet and very little slap or vibration. I'm hoping it will look pretty with the new skin although I was conservative and went for a dark blue.

That RC won't go cheap. They average around £20-£25. The Petri looks good. Can imagine Yoko wondering how he can get the XD7 now. There is a site called Thingyverse and they list loads of 3d models to print. I am willing do do bits and bobs for people within reason, and as long as it fits in a 140x140x140mm print area.

I'm saying nothing. I saw a Canonet QL17 G3 (minor problem with it) which I expect will also ramp up in price but apart from having more cameras in need of fixing than not, and the wife would actually finally flip, I do have other things to do. The devil does indeed make work for idle hands (or Idle Hans if you're into dad jokes).
