I've bought Mr LPH one of these for Christmas after reading good reports about them. Our alarm goes off at 5.30am and I'm gradually awoken by 'Farming Today' on Radio 4 but then get shocked awake by Stu's alarm. The idea with this is that the light gradually brightens like a sunrise making which makes your brain come out of deep sleep. In summer we have full on black out blinds as the sun rises at an angle that dazzles our room in June/July so even in summer I don't have gentle sunlight to wake me - it's either total darkness or searing sunlight burning my retinas. I'll tell you how good it is in mid January.

Of course none of this will stop the shock of being woken up by 7.5 kilos of fat idiot cat jumping on me then poking me in the eye with his claws out. He normally saves that for when I'm, trying to have a weekend lie in.

That is a fat kitty! Ours is only 3.5kg and if she jumps on us we can barely feel it.

Of course the 150kg combined weight of dogs chasing her is a different matter.

He's not fat! He's just a big cat. Well I actually have two of them that size but Iggle is the morning menace whereas Piggle harasses for cuddles on the sofa in the evening.

I must be getting old because I'm watching the BBC music awards and think One Direction and Ed Sheeran are totally rubbish.

And I don't recognise any of the others.

On the upside I'm getting the Blur 21 box set for my birthday. To replace various lost CDs.
