Re: GM3 Idle banter and random drivel thread
I am thinking Motorway as far as Carlisle, and then either:-
A74M all the way - 145 miles 2hours 42m - arrive bored and squared off tyres Or this:- Clicky 161 Miles, 4 hours 33 minutes but avoids Glasgow and takes in some great roads - I drove the Moffat - Biggar stretch a couple of weeks ago - nice bit of road that Any views on that route??? NB we still need to get to Carlisle first from Quiffs, which is 150 miles so will probably stick to the M6 for that bit

Re: GM3 Idle banter and random drivel thread
We would love to travel up on a twistier route than M-way, but there is no direct route and once you get rolling, accidents/roadworks not withstanding, you can make good easy progress. A lot of the scenery is lovely and as a rider, I can actually take it in.

Well heres one to beat then..Peg came home from the Isle of Skye Tuesday, bimbled down Glencoe, via a detour of about an hours stop in a Glasgow suburb and 3 times pee stop, 459 miles, left at 11am got home to Halifax at 7.30pm!

Re: GM3 Idle banter and random drivel thread
TBH mate, once you get into the central belt the road from Carluke through Airdrie is just a straight main road full of local traffic, with lots of speed limits interrupting progress. Then once you get out to Condorrat you get back onto a not bad road all the way to Balloch, but again you've got regular towns to go through such a Milton of Campsie, Lennoxtown, etc, and it can be quite a nadgery route with slow progress.
I would join the motorway again just south of Glasgow and head for the Erskine Bridge which is the fastest route to the campsite. This route takes you down the clyde valley from Lanark back to the motorway through some fantastic twisties. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...9,2.469177&z=9 If that isn't enough twisties for you then put this into your journey earlier on to compensate for having taken the motorway through Glasgow, takes you over the fantastic hairpins of the Hartside Pass. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...,1.234589&z=10 Last edited by -Ralph-; 03-06-10 at 06:03 PM. |

Trying to find a route that will still head in the right direction, not be too boring and not take too long. Might just stick to the motorway all the way then, and dive on to the B7076 every now and again for a break.
