For what it's worth, the reason I made the 'I don't care I haven't obscured it' comment was in the hopes of avoiding a derail in the first place. I've posted pictures of my vehicles on forums in the past and often ended up with a similar epic derail/argument just like this. I tried using the swirl effect from Photoshop and had a second derail for that, telling me how easily those could be reversed too!

It's totally unintelligible and would only make sense to the writer. I certainly haven't been proven wrong either - I see more posts supporting my view than I do supporting the plate blurrers.
