Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?
Riding with a mate in the wind on the rivers edge with no lights through tunnels along walk ways in the dark.
By human power only .. such fun but not at the time

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?
I remember when it was 37p a litre when I first started driving - and that was only 1988 so not just after they invented cars!

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?
I remember the total chaos when it went a pound per gallon and the mechanical pumps had to be changed...
Yes it was a shock when I filled up my 250 RD.....(on L plates of back then).

4/6d per gallon! in 1960 full-fat fourstar, no unleaded there and no litres or decimal coins.
Don't think I've smiled since.

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?
Looking at what you pay for fuel makes our prices look pretty good...
GBP = AUD2.15 Lately I've been paying about $1.20/litre... or 56p. If I fill up at the office it's a hair over a dollar... or about 47p. |

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?
4star 2/8p a gallon in 1966. From the fleet pumps at work. A few years later, I had a Colt Celeste 1600 and was filling it with 4star for 2 years until I RTFM at which point I discovered that it was tuned to run on 2 star.
It ran better and was more economical on the 2 star.

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?
My ex bought himself a 1967 Mustang Fastback. He also qualified as a pilot. When he came down from Sheffield to visit petrol prices were at their peak so he rented a little Piper plane as he reckoned that worked out cheaper than driving the beast down the M1. He sold the Mustang soon after to a guy who lived in the South of France. We reckoned the fuel costs to drive it there would be almost as much as he paid for the car!
