Think I got it. Set it at 4ft and set on something black and white using a small magnifier and a cable release.

Yep. The XA3 was waiting for me when I got home from work. Tiny little thing; very pocketable. Reminds me a bit of a mju that a friend used to have many years ago. I noticed the flash lever below the lens seemed to be stuck. Wonder if that has anything to do with the flash not working.
Like the fact that it has back light compensation.

The flash lever won't move without a flash being attached (I think) Glad it arrived ok.

Desperately trying to resist this. Quite cheap compared to what they can go for on ebay and it's been checked over too.

You've basically got the idea of collimation, and the lenses on these aren't so fast that a little inaccuracy matters so much. A triplet works best when stopped down to f5.6 or more, plus with few fast shutter speeds, you'll most likely have a reasonable DoF in most pics to get you out of trouble. However for maximum accuracy...

If you were to stick a sheet of ground glass where the film goes, this would be ideal; the side of the glass facing the lens is where the film plane goes. If you use something smaller (I also use an SLR focus screen) then you need a bit more jiggery pokery. If you used a bit of card and cut a hole in it, then stuck your little focus screen to the back, it'd be too far from the lens, by the thickness of the card, so you'd end up with pictures focused long. Stick another bit of card to the front of the first; the back side of this (away from the lens) is also on the film plane. Stick your focus screen to the rear side of that, and its front face will now be on the film plane. Hopefully all makes sense! The card needs to be fairly rigid as it is spanning quite a gap.

Contessa went for £79 in the end!

Nah, annoyingly it didn't go for that much in the end, £13, but maybe would have been more if I'd had a go. Yep was drooling over a nice folding Contessa 35. A while back I missed out on two at really bargainous prices, mainly due to stupidity, but this one was being bid on by loads of people.

112053983018 Mess Ikonta, missing the knob for the rangefinder but otherwise seems to be complete, the bits that make the rangefinder work are still there, you could print one to fit, I have one of these if you remember. Check the second picture though, the lens looks a bit funny, but on the 5th one it seems fine, maybe I'm being paranoid. Bellows have had some repair. Ending 10pm Thursday, and comes with ZI case.
