Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
Just completed our first confined water dive. Covered quite a bit, fluffed a bit on alternate air supply with the wife. Good fun though!

I always think it sounds like Darth Vader. It is strange but you get used to it quite quickly. I forgot to equalise on the way to the bottom of the pool, and boy do you know about it!

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
Another day in the pool. Have now finished the confined water part. Next step is open water. Diveline are off to Malta in April so tempted to join them.

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
I wouldn't be giving malta a fookin penny of mine mate.
There was an accident over there relatively recently and they're extraditing one of the party back over there on some trumped up charges. http://www.thediveforum.com/showthre...-Malta-Arrests Sorry it's a mega thread but basically 2 people died on a dive and the uk coroner was happy it was medical, an accident. Few of us have theory is it is because the guy is a bit dark and the maltese are racist as 1950's were here, or it is pressures of malta dive centres to try stop diving unguided by commercial centre. Either way it's bang out of order.

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
Yeah I read in Diver about that. Don't remember the exact details but it's messed up that they want to drag him back to Malta.

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
Wow, just read some of the thread you posted YC, serious ****.....must be some seriously demanding dive spots over there which people are ill prepared for, atleast that's the most likely reason I can think of for these deaths to have occurred....
You would hope if going to Malta to learn to dive you would be diving in calm waters where no criminal charges would factor into things...

Re: Any qualified scuba divers out there?
UK coroner reckoned it was medical factors.
Challenging diving? Not really, in grand scheme of things. Shallow, not a lot going on? Bit of chop and fannying about with shore entry seems to be worst of it. If going to learn to dive yeah you would hopefully be in sheltered water... however on basic principles... they're being *****, so they have zero chance of getting a penny off me and I will tell anyone to (not) do the same. Serious ****... yeah and it nearly ended BSAC for a while until they back-pedalled faster than an MP questioned on his expenses and decided they were actually going to do their fkin job and support a british diver. (of course with padi, iantd etc you would have had ZERO chance of any assistance)
